My photos of Roaring Rapids on its opening day to the general public in 1981. Notice the incomplete topiary in the center of the ride's que as well as the absence of a structure covering the main que area. There were also no boards limiting where the boats could go and all of the wave makers, whirlpools, rapids, and waterfalls, as well as the ride's location in a largely undeveloped area of the park, contributed to the thrill of an authentic whitewater experience. Signs throughout the que and before boarding informed guests "you ride hard and come out wet. Warning: You will get soaked on this ride." Executive management as well as Operations Directors/Management can be seen in several shots along the banks of the ride.
