A Courier News reporter writes about Great Adventure's 1981 season and the soon to be opened Roaring Rapids, the Northeast's only man-made whitewater raft ride.  Today, Roaring Rapids (Congo Rapids) is the oldest of Intamin's River Rapids rides still in operation.  The world's first River Rapids ride (Thunder River) was introduced in 1980 at AstroWorld and closed along with that park, making GA's Roaring Rapids the oldest ride of its type operating today.
