1981-10-21 GA Purchases Estate.jpg
After being awarded a court judgment that ultimately totaled $9 million (including interest and the cost of lost appeals) in 1977 and not having the cash available to fulfill the judgement, the Switlik family was forced to sell many of their assets. SFGA bought many of those assets, even though they were of little value to the company. The 534-acre Switlik estate, just across Switlik lake from the park, was valuable to Great Adventure for a host of reasons. Six Flags bought the land at then market value ($1,661 per acre) in October of 1981.
