I rode Skull Mountain during Fright Fest this year for the first time in about 5 years.

I completely forgot how cool of a little ride this thing is. That first drop took me by surprise just like it did when it first opened.

Great spotlight.

Excellent Spotlight for a ride that I no longer see much of anymore. Up until this year I had basically written it off ever since a few years ago when I went on it and the lights inside the building were on which completely killed any mood there was on the coaster. But I do also recall how much fun this ride seemed when it first opened, especially with the elaborate theming the park put to it. I was also very interested to see how long the lines for the attraction were during Fright Fest as over the years Skull Mountain has seemed to become almost a walk on attraction. I also find it somewhat humerous to come out ofSkull Mountain and find myself in the midst of Wiggles World. One has to wonder which of those two is supposed to be scarier :D

If theWiggles show is on and they are singing the Fruit Salad song, I would have to say Wiggles World is MUCH scarier!

I often wonder how many of the Wiggles World kids are scared by the big skull on top of Skull Mountain. It was smart of them to put the S.S.Feathersword closest to Skull Mountain to try to bridge the themeing a little.

They really were. I can't remember the last time I saw that many people waiting to go on it. The bigger rides did have some long lines ( El Toro's was insane the night we were there) so that may have contributed to it. Also, maybe some people felt that it was more fitting a ride during Fright Fest seeing as how it's theming and all give it that slight eerie feeling from the outside. One never knows lol.

I remember when this was the big new ride when it first opened. It used to have a bigger queue behind where Panda Express is now. Also those cave openings where you walk down didn't used to have bars. The park added them in years later due to jerks cutting into line though them.

Gotta love those folks that make everyone else's life miserable. Just this past season we had a woman in front of us on a line for Nitro, completely by herself. When we got up to about where you begin to assend the stairs, five kids came walking up the side of the railing and climbed over to join her in line. Thankfully a minute later or so security came wlaking up an escorted all of them out of lin and who knows where to much applause from the rest of the line. I don't mind when people in a group send one person to go get a snack or to the bathroom or something because they were already there and simply hed to go somewhere, but it really does irk me when people try to save positions on a ride for large groups and expect the rest of us who were not able to do something else while waiting in line to be understanding.

Took a ride on this during opening day and in all honesty, when the lights are off inside it still does provide a pretty fun ride. There are some parts still not being used like a skeleton that stands pretty tall and stuff inside that would be nice to see put to good use, but I think the ride stands up pretty well for itself still. The big test will be when the Dark Knight opens and people start inevitably comparing the two dark coasters.

There is all sorts of stuff in there, there are two tiki faces that they used to light up with UV lights and those faces are still in there on the walls. Then back in 1999 they installed a bunch of halloween props and lighting for FF, the heavy rock / screaming soundtrack was for 1999 FF and they did play it again last sunday.

Below are some fantastic pictures of the original Skull Mountain queue line courtesy of NewPlusNotes.com. As you can see, the theming for ride was extensive and lasted up through the 1998 season when it was removed for the addition of the Jolly Roger ride.

We look forward to adding these to our Skull Mountain Spotlight and thank NewsPlusNotes, com for the contribution!

I waited in line for 3 and 1\2 hours the day this ride opened and i was extremly imprssed with it. I think as an adult its still a good ride and similar to a disney themed ride as SF is tring to become.I dont think SF will remove this one anytime soon as many younger kids stil ride and since the park is tring to go back to family attractions i think they have to keep it to them content.

This ride to this day has so much potential with the theming still inside going unused and the whole atmosphere. Unfortunately it is really beginning to show signs of its upkeepe being ignored for a while but it really can be a fun ride still.

THIS is definetely a better use of space than Jolly Rodger. It's a good ride, but this is Disney quality!!DISNEY QUALITY! :Mickeymorph::Mickeymorph::Mickeymorph:

Noone has patience anymore it would seem. Heck thee are people I have heard complaining that they have to wait a single cycle on some rides like the teacups. I think the big thing with Skull Mountain was that there was just so much different about it than anything in the park at the time being an indoor roller coaster with the mood properly set by its exterior scenery. It was worth the wait to people at that point.

I was just on it a few days ago and it is in a very sad condition. the strobes came on as i was going up the lift. also with the two peices of scenery that they do have in there, they stay lit the whole time so you basically see the whole ride. they should really fix it up. :(

The tunnel scene has seen better days. I think next season, the park should return the original quenue, retheme Jolly Roger and place it in Spin Meister's old spot, and an animatronic tiger and soom scared explorers during the tunnel scene, some fog on the lift, a voodoo queen at thew toop of the lift, a jungle scene with trees, animals a camp and truck where the pumpkin is know, some voddo poles, some Natives in canoes with spears in a lake and a treasure room at the end of the ride during the break run, bring back the water fall, and bring back strobes. During the indoor quenue, there should be opictures and luggage from missing explorerers.

I had a terrible ride on Skully the other day. Unfortunate, too, considering how well it's been running this year (aside from the fact that the waterfall has been turned off).

I rode a typical back row ride, and upon dropping, I heard no moan. It was at the bottom of the first drop that I realized the speaker is shot! (Either that or someone lowered the volume quite a bit!)

Absolutely no strobes, barely any music, and the light shining on the pumpkin in the helix was so dim I couldn't see it.

I re-rode, thinking maybe it was just my ride, but no, the second ride was the same way.

Skully needs some TLC to bring it back to life, IMHO.
