Daved Thomson
Just wanted to check with you, are you sure of some of the publication dates on the postcard sets. I noticed that the 1976 set has the Six Flags Great Adventure rainbow on it and Six Flags didn't purchase the park until 1977. I believe these dates are simply the copyright dates (or date that the photo was originally taken) rather than the date that the postcard set was sold in the park, especially since many of the same photos appeared during multiple seasons. 29yrswithaGApass
I often wonder what was featured on the two missing cards (GA-5 and GA-8) from the original 1974 card set. I think it is safe to assume that GA-5 is an artist's rendering, possibly something planned but never built like a restaurant. I would like to think that GA-8 is a card of the entrance gates to the Enchanted Forest theme park. Anyone care to speculate?
29yrswithaGApass
Does anyone else find it strange that the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster, Kingda Ka, was never featured on a postcard?
29yrswithaGApass
I often wonder what was featured on the two missing cards (GA-5 and GA-8) from the original 1974 card set. I think it is safe to assume that GA-5 is an artist's rendering, possibly something planned but never built like a restaurant. I would like to think that GA-8 is a card of the entrance gates to the Enchanted Forest theme park. Anyone care to speculate? I am purely speculating but I think cards GA-5 and GA-8 would like something like this: GA-5 International Gourmet Food Fair GA-8 Enchanted Forest Entrance
gafreak
its intresting to see how many dolphins the park had at one time.

29yrswithaGApass
They are few and far between but I discovered another "new" postcard! This time it is SED-207 and features a brown bear on a rock. It is very similar to SED-208 at the bottom of this post. SED-207: Very similar to this card:
29yrswithaGApass
The Great Adventure postcards are interesting but even more so when they are "used". Here's one that was sent in 1975:
29yrswithaGApass
I discovered there was a postcard issued in 1980 during Oktoberfest!
FlumeOp1974
Dave that's an easy anwser. The park was in transiton that year. Six Flag did not take over the park until 1977 but they were the managment company that was brought in to run the operations and development im 1976. If you look closely at the event sign outside the main gate youll see the orginal park logo and the under it a very simple script presented by Six Flags. 29yrswithaGApass
I did a double take at the postcard below. It sort of looks like this was a four car train but it was just the second car hidden behind the first.
29yrswithaGApass
Although these aren't 100% Great Adventure, I added a page for postcards of Jackson NJ to our collection because many of the nature scenes reminded me of Switlik Lake. You can check them out HERE. Some samples are below:
29yrswithaGApass
Two more postcards added to the Postcards Gallery. These two were on opposite sides of one of those little triangular paper tents found on restaurant tables. Check out the layout HERE. 29yrswithaGApass
I discovered another variation of the early-80's postcard foldouts. The postcards are a little taller than the foldouts that followed it and a few images are also different. 29yrswithaGApass
Here is a used Great Adventure postcard mailed in 1976. It is interesting to note the comment about the size of the park!
robertleax
Anyone remembering writing post cards? It was always better to send them instead of someone receiving them!
