Tour - 2011 Pre-Season

Six Flags posted some shot's earlier, and you were in one of them. I knew this would be coming soon. I assume they are light's for the "Green Lantern", any word where they will be placed? And is that year 2 of the "Carousel" restoration coming true? It look's like some of the inner panels are gone, and the painting's of the animal's that hung from above are gone as well.

- Green Lantern is currently ahead of schedule in construction and is scheduled be open to season passholders on May 19-21st, and open to the public on May 25th!

- Green Lantern will be running all three trains as much as possible.

- The yellow track on the Green Lantern does refer to the villain Parallax. It is part of a story that will play out on the queue and the ride.

- Ka will be running three trains on one side of the station. This is supposed to improve capacity by 10%, but if it does not, it can be switched back to previous operations easily.

- ErUPtion is gone, but will be replaced by a Slingshot in May

- The 4-D theatre has been gutted is now being used as a maintenance shed until there is a concrete plan to redevelop it.

- The cable cars have been repainted to match the new sponsor, M&Ms.

- Safari Discoveries is pretty much all of what's in the Golden Kingdom now. The tortoise area will house llamas.

- The Golden Kingdom shops have changed names to match the new Safari Discoveries theme.

- The Temple of the Tiger stage stadium area will be open from 10:30-6 for people to sit and relax, talk to educators, and watch the sea lions, who are now inhabiting the stage area. Eventually they may be doing a sea lion show there.

- You will be able to walk around the old tiger exhibit, which has been turned into an area to see over 20 different species of animals, from pythons to pigs, to bears, birds, and much more. There is even an aviary!

- The animals will be changing periodically throughout the season as new babies are born and brought to the Safari Discoveries area.

- All the play structures and rides in the Golden Kingdom are gone and the pathway has been closed off.

- The only remaining GK attraction other than Kingda Ka and the shops/stand is Splashwater Oasis.

- The tigers from Temple of the Tiger are in the safari, and you can see them if you purchase the new $24.99 Close Encounters safari tour. The tour will be 90 minutes and take visitors through the entire Safari with stops at Camp Rose to feed the giraffes and at the tiger cages to feed the tigers.

- There will be no new flat rides this year. They are currently hopping to add some for the 2012 season.

- There is currently no plan to re-open Old Country until the empty flat pads around the park are filled up or there is a real plan to redevelop the area.

- They are now considering a single rider line for Green Lantern.

- There is a plan in the budget to repave/re-line the parking lot and safari lanes in the future

- They will think about a new season pass entrance?

- They want to bring some old nostalgia back to the park with new versions of flat rides from the past.

- They want to find a way to bring more people to the Safari, and bring everyone closer to the animals. Safari Discoveries is the start, but there are thoughts of stops in the safari where people could get out and go on walkways to see the animals. Possibly they could consider some sort of ride through for the Safari (train, kite flier, etc) but that would be WAY off.

- There is a possibility that all three parks (GA, HH, WS) will come under one "Great Adventure" banner and admission fee (in both tickets and season passes) in the future.

- The current direction of Six Flags corporate is to give the parks some more autonomy and make them more regional specific again/less "corporate".

- They would love to have an on-site hotel, but there are issues with advertising when it comes to the other Six Flags parks in the area that are of concern. It was mentioned if a chain would like to partner with them and build a hotel, they would be all for it.

- There was talk about a possible RV-park, maybe log cabins on property. Nothing really concrete, sounded like a possible thought. And they would want to check with local RV campgrounds to make sure they don't step on any toes.

- The tigers were removed from the Golden Kingdom due to safety concerns.

There was a lot of work done on the Carousel this off season although most of it won't be that noticeable to guests. The ride was totally dismantled when we were at the park back in March while the electrical wiring was replaced. One thing that you will be able to notice is that the yellow overhead support beams have been repainted. They are trying to also make it so that the steam engine can be easily seen instead of behind plexiglass. There is more work to be done, but it is nice to know that they are continuing to fix her up!

Amazing idea!

I love the direction the park is going in. Bringing back nostalgia is a great idea. As well as flats coming back.

"- Ka will be running three trains on one side of the station. This will improve capacity by 10%!"

Does this mean it will ONLY run three trains on one side or three trains on one side and one train on the other?

it means it will only be running on oneside with 3 trains, kind of like the nitro, station-waiting-and readys all one one side, thats it.

but it does it for both sides so just in case the right station is down for any reasons we can go to the left station

but we still have 4 trains but wont be running 4 trains

I guess with Kingda Ka they can run three trains, with staff that is usually for only two. I said a little while ago, that I like the idea of promoting the Safari alot more, I have thought for a while now that it is under utilized and should have something done to "pump some life in it". Eventually I would love to see them make the "Golden Kingdom" sort of the "gateway" to the Safari from within the Theme park. Have the tour's depart from there, and the station for a Train or a Monorail. With what they are doing this year, this could be the start of a MAJOR overhaul of the Safari, and it is a great idea.

I like the idea of a single rider line for Green Lantern. While waiting for the B&M's, there are always some seats going out empty and it would help make the wait shorter for everyone if all seats were filled. If they try it and it goes well, I'd like to see it added to Superman too.
