Gr.Adv.Debate #30: Where would you build a G.A. hotel?

Recommended Posts

I think a little past the old safari entrance would be ideal. Balconies would give an amazing an unique view of the safari and skyline, and the location would be close enough to add a special hotel-only entrance to the park where RT's old turnaround was. That is the primary reason for choosing that area over across the lake. Also, I would have it themed similar to the Golden Kingdom, with that temple/jungle look to it. It would go well with its proximity to the safari and the hotel-only entrance by the GK.

As far as ammenities go, I would indeed include an indoor waterpark as well as huge Dave and Busters. To me, D&B is the perfect fit for a theme park as it combines chain-quality food, games for kids, and alcohol and sports for adults...an ideal blend of entertainment for the whole family. The waterpark + D&B would keep people coming year-round, with D&B being a money-maker for dinner and post-park hours.

Another idea is to build a massive hotel/casino along the lines of Mohegan Sun. That will have non-enthusiasts from all over coming to the property who will decide to frequent the park due to its proximity and discounted tickets. With the property the park has, it could certainly house a hotel/casino and the crowds it will bring. In fact, it could be the key step to making the property a premier entertainment capital in the country, especially if they expanded the park and HH, added one or two chain restaurants and an indoor waterpark. Of course this will never happen, but GAdv has the VERY rare combo of location, size and foundation to be more than simply a coaster destination (aka be more Universal than CP). The only issue would be drunk/unruly casino guests spilling over the family-centered amusement park.

If Six Flags was Disney, I would use that small peninsula next to The Joker as a way to get to the hotel and come back, and have the hotel across the lake, sitting there with a great view of the safari and the park. I would theme it as a jungle/golden kingdom hotel, like The Great Escape and include a small mall and cool ways of transportation like slides as stairways down, or open glass elevators

in the unused area of the Safari connecting to a new section connected to Bizarro. It would have a Jersey Boardwalk theme and possibly a casino attached. Most of the money from the Casino would go to Six Flags [i'm sure some would have to go to the State and all]. It could be built in a similar manor to Disney's Boardwalk with a bit of a shopping and dining district which would have a tram connecting the hotel and Great Adventure to Hurricane Harbor called Six Flags Mid-American Village [in reference to Six Flags St. Louis]; the hotel itself could be called Six Flags Boardwalk Hotel Jackson.

A casino is a nice idea to draw in people and revenue but it would be a long time before a casino will come outside of AC. The horse tracks have been trying to get slot machines at their locations for years but the powers in AC don't let it happen.

A hotel with an indoor waterpark would be fantastic. Maybe it would be big enough for an IMAX theater to be included.

I think it will happen eventually. Atlantic City is in trouble and the state would make a lot of money if other areas besides Atlantic City could have casinos. I don't know how I would feel about a casino on Great Adventure property though. I don't have a problem with casinos but I can see it attracting a lot of negativity towards Six Flags from people against it.

If a hotel were built I want to see an indoor waterpark more than anything else. The current indoor waterparks in the state have a not so great collection of slides and if they were to add some slides that both Hurricane Harbor and the other NJ indoor waterparks don't have like a Proslide water coaster or drop box slides it might convince more people to stay there. I think it would be fun to go to a hotel on site during Holiday In The Park and spend part of the day walking around the park and then going back to the hotel and spending time in the indoor waterpark.

I would not want a casino at GADV, they attract a sleazy crowd. In Las Vegas, large groups of weirdos hang out, outside the casinos, and AC has a hooker problem. Plus there are conmen and thieves who prey on gamblers, as well as despite gamblers who want more money by any means. Crowds at GADV are too rowdy as is.

A indoor water park would be a far better and more friendly option, but I don't want to see a hotel at all as it would make the park even more crowded.

I wonder how noticeable an increase in the crowd would be. Using Great Wolf Lodge as a model, lets say there is a 400 room hotel built I would say an average of 3 people per room. At max capacity there is 1,200 additional people at the park. That's a good number of additional guests in the park but in reality there would have to be some kind of event for the hotel to reach capacity. So if the hotel averages 80% of capacity. Now there is an additional 960 guests in the park. I'm not sure what the average number of park guests is but I don't think that another 960 will hurt the experience at the park. If those people were only divided between the coasters it would be between 60 and 80 people per line. Since there are other rides, food and shopping those numbers wouldn't come to that.

I am making these numbers up obviously. I don't know what a hotel expects the average capacity to be. I think my numbers would be on the high end.

That said, Unless there was an indoor water park included I don think a hotel would do well in the park.

If the hotel was built, would it be an option for the season pass? For an additional $XX.XX you have access to the hotel waterpark?

If I was to build a G.A. hotel I would build it in the area of the old safari entrance and the old discovery area. As far as I know none of that space is being used. It wouldn't exactly have to be there since it'll need a lot of space to be built but in that general area. I would also just stay with the hotel/indoor water park idea. I think a casino would bring in a rowdy and older crowd to the area. Not what Six Flags needs.

Since the old safari entrance/first section is still used, I would put a hotel with an attached (indoor) waterpark, either

-Between the Old safari entrance and the HH parking lot where there is just trees currently, or

-Across the Employee entrance on 517.

Both would use a bus transportation system or even something along the lines of a monorail

Ignoring all Environmental issues.... (and piggybacking on the "across the lake" ideas)

I think the best spot is exactly here. Amazing view of the park, only with a slight obstruction by the log flume peninsula. There would be some sort of small tram running along the blue line for access between the hotel and park. I think it's great that the entrance is center of the park, opposite the main entrance. Small ferries across the lake would be nice as well.

You'd have to have road access to the hotel, for construction, deliveries and emergency.
