Patriot Statue

Recommended Posts

We may make a Planned But Never Built spotlight for this in the future because we do have additional photos, but it is interesting to note that at one time the redesigned entrance area included a much more elaborate fountain than just the simple octagonal one that was built. Here are two views of it with a larger size Patriot Statue sitting within an irregular shaped fountain/water area.

We received some detailed feedback on the Patriot Statue from one of our readers.  Here is the information he shared:

"Not sure if anyone has ever pointed this out about the statue. But it's incorrect with the minuteman with a rifle. The rifle he is holding is a P53 Enfield Rifle. 53 as in 1853. Based on the barrel bands, ramrod, sights and even the hammer. Which is percussion cap instead of flint.  The barrel bands are screw types which didn't come around until really before the Civil War Era.  P53 was used primarily by the Confederacy during the Civil War as they didn't have much access to Union Made Springfield and such muskets/rifles."

Interesting stuff!  Below is a composite of the statue (referred to as the "Revolutionary War Monument") in the studio of M&G Inc. of Philadelphia on March 16, 1994.
