PaulieGBones
I kinda miss this ride. It wasn't the smoothest or eve the greatest ride but at the time I'd never seen anything like it. I wish they could re-vamp it and bring it back.
Great Adventurer
I'd like it to come back in the lake area. I wish Chiller was around for this program, I really wanted to go on it despite mixed reviews of it.
The Master
I rode Shockwave at SFAW before that park was closed. It was painted like GAdv's Batman: the Ride wiith Yellow track and black supports and also had a Batman Returns themed station and queue. JetsDevs4Lyf
Awesome spotlight on a coaster I honestly didn't even know existed for a good portion of my life. WOuld have definately loved to have ridden it at one point or another.
29yrswithaGApass
Darien Lake in Buffalo New York recently announced their new Motocoaster for 2008. It looks like the Shockwave which has been in storage since AstroWorld closed will sit for at least one more year but probably many more. JetsDevs4Lyf
That's certainly somewhat dissapointing. Would love to see it come to a park in the area even if for just a few years.
BuddyChrist
Nobody really wants stand-ups anymore. It seems everyone wants a launcher or woodie nowadays. I secretly want to see a new stand-up such as RR at SFMM come to a park in the Northeast.
29yrswithaGApass
I would love to see us get Chang from SF Kentucky Kingdom. A ride that size seems so out of place in a park the size of KK. It's a great standup - very graceful without "the pain".

I secretly want to see a new stand-up such as RR at SFMM come to a park in the Northeast. I think I a a little bit biased because I've never had the experience of a stand up coaster, so to ride one once in our park would be nice. But you are right the trend definately is looking like big steel launchers and wooden coasters today. It is a shame because there are a lot of older coasters who would probably have been better ideas with today's technologies than they were during their operational times. 29yrswithaGApass
I am sure some of our readers remember the ShockWave stand-up coaster- but how many remember the ShockWave television commercial? Great Adventurer
I went on a stand-up coaster of the same name recently at King's Dominion (I also have a trip report that I will bring over to this site soon). I couldn't help but think of the one we used to have at Great Adventure.
29yrswithaGApass
For 1993 we got rid of ShockWave but gained Batman The Ride. Shockwave was relocated to AstroWorld where it became Batman The Escape. If it were today, I think we would have probably just seen a Shockwave makeover to Batman at Great Adventure similar to our "Medusa to Bizarro" changeover. The Master
I rode Shockwave, aka Batman the escape at SFAW a few years ago. It had a very long queue, much longer than Batman the Ride at GAdv has. Thankfully it did not have a long line when I was there. The queue had a overturned rubber ducky car, Batman's boat crashed though a wall, and the station was done up as a freezer.
Yoshi
I wish we would have gotten the ride back after Astroworld closed, especially with it sitting in a parking lot in pieces. It would be nice to see Chang added, I know the park said we aren't getting it but I still don't think that means it 100% won't happen, they wouldn't say yes to a 2011 addition in 2009 and ruin the announcement if it were to be added. gafreak
i just read on wikipedia that GA gave up shockwave as part of the deal to get batman the ride is this true? Edited February 11, 2010 by gafreak
GAcoaster
It was more or less...we lost Shockwave so Astroworld could have a "new" ride. Originally we were supposed to get XLR8 as part of the ride rotation, but we ended up with the second BTR instead which was a much better addition. Yoshi
I wish we would have gotten XLR8, Arrow Suspended coasters look like they are a lot of fun and it would have given the park another family coaster. I'm guessing if we hadn't gotten BTR in 1993, we would have gotten it eventually a few years later. Even after Astroworld closed it would have been nice to get the coaster since they just scrapped it anyway. The Master
It is a huge shame that XLR8 was scrapped, it was my favorite coaster at SFAW. Shockwave when I rode it at SFAW was fairly rough and not comfortable. It was also very slow loading as the employees had to do 3 adjustments for every rider. CoasterPrince
If we would have gotten XLR8 I think we would have gotten a bigger better B&M invert in the future. Too bad.
GAcoaster
I doubt it...they gave each park the same BTR clone, why would they have given us anything different?

batmanrobinchiller
Was Shockwave a prototype created by the TOGO co.? 0-o
GAcoaster
No, it was built by INTAMIN. Before posting, read the spotlights and it is all explained.
RideOfSteel
Did Shockwave really only have two trains? I was watching a POV of it (at Astroworld) on TPR's Coasters In the Raw, and it really looked like there was three. I screen captured the part. It looks to have one in the station, one that the camera man is on, and one on the transfer. http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream Edit: Here's a slightly better one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/79973644@N03/7331540276/in/photostream/ Edited June 4, 2012 by RideOfSteel
