29yrswithaGApass Posted May 5, 2021 Report Share Posted May 5, 2021 Park News - (5/5/21) Six Flags Darien Lake has confirmed that Grizzly Run, the park’s river rapids ride, is officially closed and will be removed to make way for future new additions. The rapids ride goes take up a significant bit of space in the South-Eastern corner of the theme park that could be re-purposed and filled with a number of different rides, or even a whole land full of rides. Medusa42 Posted May 7, 2021 Author Report Share Posted May 7, 2021 The park map and website for Six Flags Great America lists Roaring Rapids and Sky Trek Tower as "Closed for the Season". Both attractions are still on the map and haven't been replaced by green space. It’s a shame that it seems we are reliving the same type of ride removal focus of the Shapiro days. I know GA is lucky that they did not suffer any removals this season, but the one ride that they had intended to take out may just be waiting in the wings for when they ultimately decide to flip the switch and remove it. While Splashwater Falls (Shoot the Chutes) has been sitting unused for the past few seasons, a new post from Metro Atlanta Coaster Club confirms that Splashwater Falls is now being removed along with the “Bugs Bunny High Seas Adventure” family swing ride. Quote Park News - (5/22/21) It has been confirmed… Tidal Wave at Six Flags Magic Mountain is no more. Work crews have been rapidly removing the park’s classic big splash water ride at a frantic pace to the point that very little of the ride is now left. You can see some pictures of the early removal taking place earlier this week in an update posted to Park Journey. Once Tidal Wave is gone, I suspect we’ll start to see more work begin for the planned RMC single-rail Raptor coaster now expected for the 2022 season that will span across the Tidal Wave area, moving from the former Green Lantern site over towards Justice League and back. I am guessing the park is putting a new coaster for 2022 where Splashwater Falls and Bugs Bunny High Seas Adventure were. Interesting to to see Harley Quinn removed especially since out Cyborg was running on opening day. Maybe we GA took some parts from Texas. Also, sad to hear Rodeo may be gone. Kind of scary to hear they are doing today what was done in the Shapiro years including closed rides, removed facilities, and portions of the park blocked off (like when the Old Country and Balins Jungleland were closed at GA). Quote Park News - (4/12/22) Six Flags over Texas had a heck of a weekend, resulting with some unpleasant news headlines after an incident took place at Mr. Freeze resulting in an employee and six guests being treated for smoke inhalation. Around 6:30pm in the evening smoke began to fill up in the station, caused by “an electrical malfunction”. From the sound of things, this may have been coming from Mr. Freeze’s launch tunnel. The source of the smoke/fire was quickly put out by park staff, but I’m hearing that Mr. Freeze will be closed for a bit while they determined what happened and determine a course of action. If that wasn’t enough, apparently a second small fire broke out in the park sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning at the construction site for the new Speelunker ride. Fortunately I’m told on-site crews spotted the fire in the outside queue area quickly and put it out before it could cause major damage. The good news is that we’ve finally heard some good news about the status of the new Pirates of Speelunker Cave attraction, who reported that the ride is nearly finished and is expected to open as early as Memorial Day weekend if possible. No word on Aquaman however, as the ride is still in a very unfinished state. There is a very short period of time between now and the start of summer, just when guests are really going to want to enjoy a nice water ride due to the Texas heat… and it just doesn’t look like they are going to have it ready for quite some time. Long before the fires however, a bunch of reports were sent into Screamscape about some drastic operational changes taking place in the park. For whatever reason, select park pathways have been closed off, with more expected to be closed soon, that were determined to be “low traffic” areas. There are signs on the walls blocking-off the paths saying they are working on future improvement projects here, but unfortunately this does not seem to be the case. Instead these low-traffic areas are being closed and everything within (merchandise, restaurants and even some rides) so that the park doesn’t have to staff them. Already the Rodeo is closed as that pathway has been closed, and I’m hearing that other paths could close next. Other things in the park already closed include Casa Magnetica, the Chop Six restaurant and all nearby retail. I’ve also heard that the park has closed the picnic areas in the parking lot as a way to encourage more in-park dining and less tailgating. Speaking of trying to increase guest spending, remember all those new Single Rider lines the park was promoting? Apparently Six Flags over Texas has closed every single one of them, as they were biting into the park’s Flash Pass sales. Please note, the action of removing the new Single Rider lines here is not a corporate wide agenda, and so far the Single Rider lines at other parks will remain. So where does this leave Six Flags over Texas? In a bit of a difficult spot now due to some other issues. I’m hearing that the park’s Joker coaster may be closed for a time, and possibly all the S&S Free Spins at the other Six Flags parks, due to an unknown incident at the New Jersey park. Mr. Freeze is down, Titan is still down (waiting on a new lift hill chain), Sidewinder closed (because the path to Titan is blocked), Judge Roy Scream down for re-tracking, Roaring Rapids closed (now a summer only attraction), Rodeo closed due to pathway closure, Casa Magnetica closed, Harley Quinn may be closed along with Joker, Aquaman not finished… Well, it does sound like there is a lot to be desired about the current operational state of things at Six Flags over Texas.
