Royal Caribbean's newest ship will span 16 decks, encompass 220,000 gross registered tons, carry 5,400 guests, and feature 2,700 staterooms. The ship will homeport in Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and cruise the Caribbean year-round. In 2010, the Oasis of the Seas will be joined by a sister ship, Allure of the Seas. Specially hand-crafted for Royal Caribbean from poplar wood, the full-sized, traditional carousel will feature 21 figures suspended from stainless steel poles, showcasing a time-honored menagerie of animals such as zebras, giraffes and lions, alongside a variety of hand-painted horses, including a princess horse and a crowned frog prince. The lead horse, customarily the fanciest horse of the carousel, will be adorned with Royal Caribbean logos, while a single chariot will serve as a stationary seat for two. The frame of the carousel will have a red and golden yellow facade, turn-of-the-century artwork scenery panels, and LED lights that twinkle during the day and night. They could add rides too, like a Wiggles World, Bugs Bunny theater, and Dark Knight. Now that wouldn't be cool, it'd be AWESOME!!!!!!! But I commend Royal Carribean on a new innvoation into the cruise and theme park industry. In years too come, there might be actual theme parks on ships!!!! Source: CruiseCritic.com Oasis of the Seas Boardwalk Photos and Details If Royal Caribbean brought a touch of Manhattan onboard with Oasis' Central Park neighborhood, the "Boardwalk" will offer a taste of Coney Island at sea -- with some decidedly modern twists. The overall feel is reminiscent of such classic pier leisure spots that dot the United States' northeast coast, with the aft-located neighborhood offering many of the same attractions you'd expect to find as seaside favorites including: * Cruising's first carousel. The 21 figures of this old fashioned carnie-style attraction -- horse, zebras, lions and giraffes -- are being hand-crafted out of poplar wood. The whole construction will take up to eight months. * As you might imagine, traditional carnival games will available. Try your luck, but in my experience, the house usually wins. * Madame Zamara's psychic and tattoo parlor is another unique addition. The tattoos are temporary, but escaping your dark fate may prove more of a challenge. * Options for consumption in the neighborhood include Johnny Rockets (a returning Royal Caribbean favorite), a Seafood Shack, Boardwalk Donut Shop, ice cream parlor, and a candy shop. The Boardwalk Bar will provide a venue for libations. Along with these classic features are some more modern touches and industry innovations, such as: * Located all the way aft will be the AquaTheater, an amphitheater-style venue with tiered seating platforms that lead down to cruising's largest freshwater pool. By day the area serves as a spot for sunning, swimming and other water-based activities. By night, the venue is transformed into a performance space. (See below for more on the AquaTheater.) * Oasis' Boardwalk will boast a pair on enormous rock climbing walls, one on either side of the AquaTheater, which will rise up six decks. * Passengers will have the chance to try the first zip-line at sea suspended nine decks above Boardwalk's ground level. We're not exactly sure how this will work yet (especially when the Boardwalk is crowded), but the idea is for passengers to be able to glide diagonally from one side of the Boardwalk to the other. * Similar to the accommodations found overlooking Central Park, the Boardwalk will feature 221 inward facing Boardwalk View balcony staterooms. There will also be eight Boardwalk View staterooms -- like accommodations but with picture windows instead of balconies. * The space will also feature several retail venues, including a novelty photo store, and Star Pier and Pinwheels (for kids and teens). Plenty of shows (full length Broadway play, an ice skating show based on the children stories of Hans Christian Anderson, diving and aerialist shows in a aqua theater), a carousel, zip line, flow riders, rock walls, miniature golf, a bar that is a ride, and so much more.
