1988-06-13 Toned Down Adventure.jpg

Camden's Courier-Post reviews what it called Great Adventure's "toned down adventure," its renewed emphasis on safety, security, and beautification, about midway through June 1988.  The newspaper really held Ray Williams' feet to the fire, pointing out even the slightest misses in his efforts to improve the park's reputation and shift in focus to a more family friendly park.

“Toned down” is such an accurate headline to describe the changes the park made in 1988.  In addition to all the safety changes almost all the flat rides were slowed down including bumper cars that hardly moved and circular rides that probably were slowed to only two-thirds of the number of rpm’s the prior season. The Carousel and Musik Express were especially sluggish.
