This is Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta). He is wearing a yellow swatch watch. It matched his yellow juggling clubs. In this picture, Juggles is probably passing clubs with another clown because he is holding silver clubs. Clowning at Great Adventure was probably the most fun job in the world. It was our job to juggles and play with children (and adults) all day long.

From August 6, 1983, Digger Mole and Loho the clown pose for a picture at the front gate. This was usually the first place we would go everyday. We were there at 10:00am when the park opened. You can see the fountain in the background.

Here is a colorful shot of the entire Shirt Tale cast with lots of clowns in the picture. We are shooting a commercial early in the morning. We discovered that shooting a commercial involves a lot of standing around and not much "shooting". Still, it was a fun experience for all of us. This picture was taken on June 6, 1984.

Here are two clowns in the dressing area just before they go out into the park. (We would say "on the street" meaning that we are going into the park where we are seen by the guests.) You can see the heads of two the the Shirt Tale characters in the adjacent room. This picture is from the 1984 season.

Peter Cincotta transforms into "Juggles" the clown for another great day at Great Adventure. Clowns use greasepaint makeup that needs to be "powdered" with baby powder. The baby powder makes the make up permanent. Even if it gets wet, it won't come off. In this picture from May 1, 1984, Peter is putting on the baby powder with a powder puff. He will brush off the excess powder and he is ready to put on his costume for the day.

The clowns would be out in the park for about an hour and then come in to take a 15-minute break. Sometimes there were other employees taking a break too (outside of the view of any guests). In this picture from July 13, 1982, Juggles sits down next to someone taking a break. She can't help but smile with a clown sitting next to her!

From August 23, 1982, this picture of four clowns and four guests is one of many pictures taken by a clown. We would often entertain guests and all of them wanted to be in the picture. So one of us would take the picture. The four clowns (left to right) are: "Arlo" - Howard Wahlberg, "Vokkos" - Eli Ganias, "Loho" - Marc Sheris, and "Gobo" - Chris Glancy.

Two clowns at Great Adventure on July 13, 1982. This is a very rare picture of Boogala the Clown (Jeannie Comisky). This was the only year that she appeared at Great Adventure. Barn Knee the Clown (Michael Stevens) went to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in (I think) 1984.

The Foghorn Follies Puppet Show
pcincotta posted a gallery image in GAH Photo Drop - Share your GA photos with us!
At the end of every show the puppeteers would stand up in the ship and wave to the crowd. People were amazed that there were only three people operating the dozens of puppets that appeared in the show. This picture was taken on July 13, 1982. From the left, the puppeteers are Angel Higgins, Sara Moore, and Karen Cascarino. Sara and Karen were also clowns at Great Adventure.© from the personal collection of Peter Cincotta - "Juggles" the clown

This year the clown and body puppet dressing area was in a room in a large building in an employee only area. It was sort of close to where the Parachute ride was--which (I think) was being build during the 1982 season. The clown and body puppet dressing was in a trailer in 1981 and still at a different location from 1983 to 1985.

The costumed characters and clowns were never allowed to go on the rides. But we made an exception on the last day of the 1984 season. This picture was taken on October 21, 1984. Very few guests attended the park on this day and the clowns and characters didn't have many people to entertain. So we entertained ourselves! One the great things about working in a seasonal park was having a definite beginning and ending to the season. The last day of the season--like the last day of school--was always a fun time for us.

This group performed in the park in 1984. They would do a set for about 30 minutes at various locations (preferably in the shade) throughout the park. They were fun to watch and listen to. They would sing and laugh and take pictures with guests. The clowns like to dance near them when they were playing and we would get a crowd to form. Fun, fun, fun!

Juggles the Clown (Peter Cincotta) began his time at Great Adventure as a body puppet in 1981. He began as a clown on September 1, 1981 and continued through the 1985 season. This picture is from August 6, 1984. Peter attended the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in 1982. He continued to work as a clown for over 20 years after leaving Great Adventure.

This picture, from June 6, 1984, was taken after we shot footage for a Great Adventure commercial. The non-clown in the picture was the director of the commercial. The clowns in back row are Loho, Fritz, Laszlo, Bud, and Juggles (me). The clowns in the front row are Alik and Vokkos. Loho and Laszlo (Marc and Steve Sheris) are brothers. Steve was usually a body puppet, not a clown. But we needed a lot of clowns for this commercial.

Two clowns and one of the Shirt Tales characters (Rik Raccoon) by the fountain greeting guests and taking pictures with guests as they walk into the park. This picture was taken very early in the 1984 season (April 21st). You can see guests wearing coats and not too many leaves on the trees. On days when the crowds were low, every guest got a lot of attention from the clowns!

Three clowns putting on their makeup. Marc Sheris is on the left. Howard Walberg is on the far right and Chris Glancy in on the near right. We would typically start work at 9:30am and be dressed and ready for the guests at opening time at 10:00am. It usually takes more than 30 minutes for makeup and costume, so we had to get started earlier--around 9:00am. This picture was taken on August 28, 1982.

Pacman made a special appearance at Great Adventure in 1982. In this picture, taken on August 28, 1982, you can see the log flume ride in the background. Pacman is posing for the picture while some guests are looking at him. Pacman would be at various places in the park throughout the day. He would take pictures for about an hour and then take a break for about 15 minutes.
