  1. Nope, you read it right. The change was made for the 2007 season, which was its last season running. The Chiller situation still gets me upset. Having that 2nd launched coaster, especially one as intense as Chiller was, perfectly complimented our lineup. It was also a major presence from the midway. Unfortunately Premier and SF did too much, too early in regards to the technology, which doomed the ride from the jump.
  2. Yikes that's really, really tough. HH and War on Lines added the most variety, while 2006 was my personal favorite due to El Toro. My most non-biased answer would be HH. It added massive revenue due to being a 2nd gate and is a complete destination in and of itself.
  3. The train decal is the same as Nitro's. Also, it's in a GAdv b-roll video where all other rides are correctly represented. Nitro also happens to be the only animation. Not saying for sure it's getting repainted with a new color scheme, but it is interesting.
  4. https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1902226783359372&id=100007162068288&set=gm.1248796118562678&source=57&refid=18&ref=group_header&__tn__=EH-R SF released a little b-roll video today that included an animation of Nitro with a different paint scheme (seen in link above). Normally I wouldn't put much stock in it, but it is odd how Nitro is the only animated ride in that video. It does have Nitro's train design. I would much prefer them to keep the unique scheme it's always had, but if it is either no paint job or the new color scheme, give me the new
  5. Free is always preferred, but $1 for 2 hours is very reasonable. $5 for 10 hours worth of lockers is a good deal, and while some people have zippered pockets that make the locker thing pointless, it is very useful for the other 99% of park goers. I can understand being slightly annoyed but they are improving guest safety with this policy, and they certainly aren't make anyone break the bank to make it happen.
  6. ^On El Toro you give them back where they stop the line at the stairs. At KK you give them back where they stop the line by the lockers.
  7. It's to prevent line cutters. The passes are in numerical order. If you got a guy who gives you pass #19 and the last pass you checked was #11, you know he just cut 7 people. People have been complaining for years about line cutting so I am glad they are doing things to deter it.
  8. 148 now. Just booked hotel right next to KD. I305 and Backlot Stunt Coaster are new since my last visit, and Dominator is also new although I rode it at SFWoA. I also missed out on Grizzly due to an extensive rehab back in 2005. I will try and hold out and make I305 my 150th but we'll see. I will also hit a new park in SFA on my way back. After the trip I'll be sitting around 160 coasters.
  9. If you are speaking about the former Grandstand area, a Raptor won't fit there. That strip could barely fit a 4D. It is a very thin piece of land, and you have to remember they have to fit the station, queue, etc...
  10. I said awhile back this is where I wanted an RMC. There isn't a ton of usable space, but enough for a Raptor/something Wicked Cyclone-sized. I do think that we would have to see some land clearing soon if something relatively big was to go there, which should be visible from Nitro and the Big Wheel. Time to keep a lookout.
  11. I always expected the standard 4D. Word on the street back in 2014 was that GAdv was slated to get Joker the same year SFFT got Batman, but they went over budget with Zumanjaro and got El Diablo instead. I do think it is very possible we get a Raptor instead of a T-Rex, but I am holding out hope that these Raptors will set the stage for T-Rex's at GAdv and SFMM. With that said, I don't expect SF to go anywhere near 300ft with the T-Rex track. I would expect 160ft-220ft.
  12. Interesting development. It still makes me nervous with 0 indication of any land clearing which would have to start soon for any type of coaster, but I still have my fingers crossed. I almost hope they wait a year if that's what it takes to get the upgraded version in the T-Rex, but I'd go crazy for a Raptor track as well. The capacity does scare me, though.
  13. Since there has been no reported land clearing, markers or attractions closing yet, where does everyone think this new attraction will go? I think/hope they will continue building up the former Old Country area, although it wouldn't surprise me if they threw us a curveball.
  14. I highly doubt a T-Rex. I've seen no visible land clearing or markings in the areas I would expect (Old Country/RT's old footprint/4D theater area). And at this point we would have heard of any current attractions closing down to make room for it. I think a Skywarp, water ride or flat ride is most likely.
  15. 10 years later I still can't walk through the Movietown area without thinking of Chiller. It had an awesome presence and was literally the perfect compliment to the Big 3 coasters. Also, don't forget Freefall and Movietown Water Effect, too. That area used to be the spot to be in the late '90's/early '00's.
  16. Notes and pics from today's trip: -Got on El Toro 2x, KK, Zumanjaro and the Big Wheel. All rides had 15min waits with most being walkons. -I took a peek at different areas and didn't see any visible signs of construction/land clearing/markings for the 2018 attraction. -Batman now has on-ride video that appears to currently be operational. A pic of the open stand can be seen below. -El Toro was strangely running smoother in the magic seat on the Kia train compared to the 2nd row of the regular train. Amazing ride as always. -Took my first ride on KK this year, 2nd row, and it was shuffling like crazy. This used to be strictly a problem with the back of the train but it appears every row is like this now. They really need to put some TLC into this ride or put $ into getting new trains. On the plus side it was running 3 train ops with quick dispatches. -SF is playing no games with this loose article policy. The El Toro entrance attendent was having people do quick pat downs of themselves to check for phones or keys. ^That's just the line to get in the line for El Toro due to the loose article policy. Past this point it was a walkon. ^sad to see: Tiger Exhibit, souvenier shop and foid stand all closed. The GK used to be one of the best areas in any SF park. Now it is bare and rundown. ^Batman's new video stand.
  17. Disney is made up of multiple theme parks. GAdv is bigger than any of their individual parks.
  18. By acres we are the largest theme park in the world. This is largely due to SORA, but we are still a massive park. As far as the theme vs amusement park thing, it's really all subjective as to where someone draws the line. I'd say Dorney is more of an amusement park as there is very little theming elements on rides or throughout midways, while GAdv mostly attempts to theme different areas and rides.
  19. My point was the element doesn't just come from NYC/the immediate area near Xanadu. It comes from all over NJ. Pretty much whatever parks open up in the area or whatever changes SF takes to make GAdv more family-friendly, the clientele will always be rough. Things have changed greatly even in just the last 15 years as far as what has gone on around the state, let alone since the '70's. I think some members here think the park can return to the whimsical wonderland they remember the park to be, packed with families lost in adventure. But no matter how far they jack up SP prices, add theming, shows and family flat rides, the park will never again be what they remember. It is a corporate park that happens to be the largest park in the world with one of the 3-4 best lineups for thrills. Instead of running from that they should embrace it. Sorry for the small rant, and it is not directed at you per say. It is just something I constantly see around this site, usually from the old-timers. The clientele doesn't ruin the park. They have made the park one of the top 20 most visited in the country and SF's most productive park. The park is generally very safe. The issue is mostly previous park management and their terrible decisions.
  20. I don't know why everyone is under the impression that this "element" our park attracts is from NYC. Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, East Orange, Elizabeth, Camden, Asbury, Atlantic City, and many other NJ towns/cities (including Long Branch, where a guy was shot and killed last week less than 1000ft from my doorstep last week) are where the majority of this "element" comes from. And this group tends to be thrill-seekers, not Nickelodeon Universe type of visitors. SF's SP pricepoint is also perfect for lower income guests (such as myself) to be repeat customers.
  21. Very interesting article. I still have very high doubts of a 2019 American Dream completion, and I also think they are over-estimating its impact on GAdv. Still, it will be interesting to see how SF reacts to the move and they make us a higher priority the next few years.
  22. So I heard a few days ago, I think on FB, that someone saw some kind of fence put up in HH. Can anyone confirm? Except for a massive expansion I couldn't see them starting anything HH-related this early but you never know. After the last two years of early construction clues this year has been very quiet.
  23. Very quick TR from tonight. Some notes and then pics: -My girlfriend, step.son and I got to the park at 7:30pm. Obviously it was a hot and VERY humid day, which left the park relatively empty upon arrival. After we rode Justice League, which had only a 10-15min wait, we walked over to El Toro. My step son, who is about 52 inches tall, lost his Toro virginity last year so I was very excited to get him back on. Unfortunately, the ride was closed to an incoming storm. Less than 5min later one of the nastiest looking black clouds fell over the park, closing everything that wasn't indoors. We high-tailed it to Skull Mountain, which was a walkon. After getting off it started pouring, so we opted for another JL ride. JL had a 10min breakdown, which made it a 20min wait. After getting off the ride it was 9:15pm, and I heard a roar in the distance. Nitro and Batman had just reopened! Got a walk-on last row lap on Nitro before running over to Toro, which was closed for the night. Noticing Joker was open on the run over to Toro, we got in line with just 5min left until park closing. -HUGE props to GAdv for reopening these coasters with only 40min left until closing. The forecast had 60% precipitation and a severe thunderstorm warning until 10pm but they still got these coasters running with the park COMPLETELY dead at that point. Nitro was even still running 3 trains despite being down for nearly 2 hours and having a max of 10 people in the station. -Speaking of Nitro, it was running amazing tonight. Each hill gave sustauned floater that kept my butt out of the seat for 4-5 seconds at a time. I guess the hot weather and slick track made the difference but it was one of the best rides I've ever had on it. Nitro at night time is also always a great experience. -I really like the blue paintjob on the Studio 28 arcade and the Gotham City retheme of the souvenier shop. Didn't pay attention to either on my last visit but they are solid little upgrades. -Got the top score for my vehicle on my 1st JL ride! Once again a really fun ride. Unfortunately people have started vandalizing the queue, ripping off paint and other elements. -Joker looks great at night! It was my first time seeing it with the neon floodlights and it looks really cool at the end of Main Street on the lake. The ride itself wasn't as intense as SFNE's a couple weeks ago but there was one moments where we were upside down a good 3-4 seconds. Even though it is short and a clone I do feel.it adds to our lineup. Overall, for 2.5 hours and a thunderstorm we ended up having a really good time! Once again a big thank you to the park's tremendous weather policies! Some pics...
  24. As Coasterbill at TPR put it in his TR today, TTD is "the 420ft tower of downtime." TTD notoriously has pretty bad reliability. It is generally a complaint you hear for TTD moreso than KK. Also, TTD is much more prone to rollbacks than KK, where it is a pretty rare occurrence. I do agree about capacity, though. Zumanjaro really killed KK's capacity.
