  1. To add to my post last night, I have no issue with clones. I much prefer our Bizarro clone over Batman at SFNE or Hydra, which are original layouts. I would much rather have S:UF over Air, and B:TR compares well to the average invert. Most GP will never ride these cloned rides, and your moderate, 100-200 coaster count enthusiasts will only ride one of these rides at other parks once every couple of years. It only really effects enthusiasts who regularly travel across the country, which is an extremely small population. Lastly, all that really matters is the enjoyment you get from these rides while at the park. And in that situation, the thought process isn't, "It annoys me that this is a clone," but rather "That ride was good!" or "That ride sucked!"
  2. Because most parks would kill to have even 1 good B&M. We have 5, including one of B&M's best hypers, the original (and one of the better) floorless coasters, one of their best standups, and a solid inverted and flyer. Throw in a 4D Free Spin as well. Oh, yeah...and the tallest and fastest coaster in the country, as well as arguably the WORLD'S BEST COASTER!!! El Toro alone makes people travel right past parks with solid lineups to come here. There is zero question our collection is among the 10 best in the world...at worst.
  3. Desperately? We have a B&M hyper, Intamin PnP nearly 200ft and a launched strata. How is a giga coaster that necessary? Anyway, I would not want an expanded Ka layout with the current trains. Also, if it were to be expanded, I would like a layout not reliant on inversions. And as mentioned, it would need to be trimmed. A Cheetah Hunt-style layout would make the layout a lot more diverse and managable than a crazy I305 copy.
  4. Agreed. Now that they've successfully revived some of the smaller, neglected parks (like SFFT, SFA, SFNE, SFM), I think it would be wise to rotate who gets something new bi-yearly. This way, the investment pool will be twice as large for parks who do get something, and the unlucky ones will be guaranteed something new the following year.
  5. My gut feeling is it will be like Chiller...standard big ride wait times, but the line will move slow. The GP will catch on and avoid queuing up at about half the line length that they would for say, Nitro, knowing it will be the same 1-2 hour wait that they would wait in the bigger Nitro queue.
  6. Adventure Alley was a pretty big upgrade a couple of years ago, SORA is MUCH better than the drive-thru was, and PDC got a lot of attention this year with El Diablo and the great-looking Macho Nacho. GK and Movietown/OC are the only two areas now that I feel deserve some renovation, IMO.
  7. One cool thing about the location is it will be the first coaster in park history that you will see directly in front of you as you enter the park. Since it is a short distance, the ride should be a towering first impression.
  8. Doubt it. The Superman retheme happened because of the huge uproar the park received due to its previous status pre-transformation. Also, it feeds into the BvS hype in 2016. Medusa has little marketability and many people forget it is still even there. Can't compare a star attraction to an overshadowed, hidden-in-the-corner attraction.
  9. Basically, a train that uses Zumanjaro's restraints.
  10. My guess is either Premier dueling launched coasters or a ground-up RMC in Old Country. I think Old Country is next up for attention, and I sort of doubt they will build a simulator building for a JL dark ride next to TDK. I think they will wait and use the old Mach building for that.
  11. Welp, this has been my prediction all year and it ended up becoming true. A little disappointed, but the location and the fact that we are finally getting a brand new coaster is exciting. It is certainly one of the few coaster types out there that gives our lineup a truly new look. Also, rumor has it that KK is getting Altair trains as well...is there any truth to this?
  12. Two toned? Does that mean track one color and supports another, or like Fury with the track having two different colors? Only way I could see 4D track being two toned is if the two rails are different colors ala the SFDK leaked RMC. If true, I could see this being Flash themed. With a Flash theme, I could see Premier being back in the picture.
  13. I'd imagine a Free Spin is WAY more of an adrenaline rush than a wing rider, which is one of B&M's softer designs. If anything, I expect a Free Spin, especially at 200ft+, being a little much for the average park goer. B&M's are tame enough for broad appeal.
  14. Besides ones already mentioned, Intamin could have done wonders with the basic layout of Nitro. Definitely a top contender for best steel in the world.
  15. I don't believe this is true. It does open them up to lawsuits if something goes wrong, but as long as the modifications pass inspection I do believe they can perform them. For example, Universal designed Hulk's launch system in-house. With that said, SF would never do it. They would definitely outsource the work.
  16. I believe that was track after it already arrived on site at SFFT.
  17. SF wouldn't release a blue tinted pic with RMC watermarks faded in the background. Oh, and a quick 5min google search: http://www.coastercrazy.com/forums/download/file.php?id=3810&mode=view
  18. Fake. You can see the Cali hills and what *looks* like Superman in the bacground (left side by FT support).
  19. Yep, it still uses the holding brake at the top. It seemed to hold for slightly less time than it used to, but it had been years since my last ride so who knows.
  20. If you were referring to the line in my TR, it was a joke
  21. Mini PTR for 8/21: Today, I hit Dorney Park for the first time in 5 years. From 02-08 I used to visit the park annually, but adult life has made it difficult to find time for CF's ugly step-child the last couple of years. This time around, I went with my girlfriend (aspiring theme park junkie) and 6 year-old step son. Since he is only 46 inches tall, it was the first time I've visited this park through the "family guy" lens, which was interesting. Due to our heavy work schedules, we couldn't deal with waking up at 7 to make the 2 hour drive from NJ for opening, so we arrived at 1pm with plans on hitting WWK first. I won't do a step-by-step breakdown, but here are some notes from the visit: -The crowd at Dorney has changed pretty drastically over the last decade. The park is definitely attracting the type of rougher crowd SF gets. Personally, I have no issues with this, but it is noticeable. -I had a number of issues with operations today. First off, at most parks, my girlfriend and I are able to switch off with my step son on the platform of coasters...i.e one rides the coaster, then when the first person gets back my stepson walks across the train to the exit while the second person gets to ride. At SF this is no issue, but Dorney refuses to let underage children on the playform AT ALL...most of the time. On some rides they absolutely refused. On other rides, it was completely ok. There was no consistency, rhyme or reason, or explanation at all. With that said, the op at Steel Force was amazing and stood by him while my girlfriend and I got to ride together. Major kudos for that. Also, food operations was horrible. I ordered mozzarella sticks near Talon that were so old that the cheese inside was crunchy. The employee there moved so incredibly slow and unenthusiastically that it was painful. -As a step-parent, the selection of family rides and attractions at this park is amazing. We could have easily spent an entire day here with the array of family rides the park offers, which is something I could never have dreamed under the enthusiast pre-tense. The Whip in particular was a ton of fun. -Despite the rougher clientelle and occasionally iffy operations, the park looked great. Very clean, rides looked (and felt) fresh and well-maintained, and everything looked very well lit for my first time at night at Dorney. -The park is still very underrated, and one elite coaster away from breaking into my favorites list. The Shockwave relocation should definitely fill that void Ride count: Talon 3x Steel Force 1x Possessed 1x Stinger 1x Thunderhawk 1x The Whip 1x Demon Drop 1x Lionel's Something or another 1x Talon: Still my number 2 invert behind Alpengeist, and ahead of other high-profile inverts like Montu, Raptor, Dragon Challenge, etc... Very well-paced with some moments of high G's, 2 pops of airtime, tight ground-hugging, and no MCBR. Also, one of the best color schemes ever. Normally my favorite coaster at Dorney, but... Steel Force: WOW. I have never been a huge fan of this ride, but my ride tonight was by far my best ride on it ever. We got a 3rd row ride during the late evening and got sustained floater on the big camelbacks, positive G's and no slugishness in the helix, and legit ejector on the return bunny hops. I don't knoe what it was...maybe it was the fact that I finally stayed at the park after 1pm and the ride was warmed up? Maybe since I finally got in a ride with a full train? I don't know, but it was a genuinely terrific ride. Stinger: New credit for me. After my horrific ride on SFNE's Goliath in June, I was curious to see how its distant cousin would ride. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised. Mostly smooth and forceful. A very nice fit in Dorney's lineup. Possessed: Nothing new here. Been on this in 2003 at the former SFWoA, and again in 2010 here. Impulses are always fun, but nothing too special. Thunderhawk: Thunderhawk always tends to be a mixed bag as far as ride experience goes. I've had horribly rough and trimmed rides on it, as well as fast and airtime-filled rides on it. Today was in the middle. No trims until the end, had a lot of airtime, but it was also rougher than I remember. Fun ride nontheless. Overall, we had a great time! Some pics:
  22. That's very surprising to me...where else on the lake could they really build a venue that makes sense?
  23. Nice! Any details on the coaster...height/speed? I'm assuming the location will be strictly in the stadium footprint.
  24. Hopefully some info from the meeting leaks soon. It's been a great season of rumors and with the park dropping zero hints at all, it'd be nice to finally get SOME info. My money is still on a 4D. Would love to be surprised be a JL dark ride, Premier launched or (99.9% unlikely) RMC. I'd almost rather the park get another low cost attraction as it would give us a better chance at a huge 2017 coaster than a medium-sized 4D would. Still, I'll be happy with anything at this point.
  25. Just because you file a trademark doesn't mean you have to use all the properties in the trademark. If we are getting a FF attraction with that name, we will not get a coaster with it as well. No way.
