I don’t particularly care about theming (my favorite roller coaster of all time, Nitro, has virtually no theming), but I would rather have a great ride less frequently than a mediocre ride every year.

Overrated: Kingda Ka. I still absolutely love it, but I always say that while it’s the ride that brings people to the park, it’s rides like Nitro, Bizarro, and El Toro especially that bring them back.

Underrated: Great American Scream Machine. The first roller coaster I rode in the park. I loved this ride with all of my heart. The fact that I never got my final ride on it in 2010 is my single biggest regret in life. I have such a soft spot for Arrow coasters, especially their bigger rides, and GASM was my absolute favorite of the bunch. She had so much charm and grace, truly a special ride, and I miss her dearly.

All were important, with Golden Kingdom arguably being the most important as it gave the park the height and speed champion of the world and the publicity that came with it, but El Toro is the greatest wooden roller coaster ever built so Plaza Del Carnaval gets my vote.

Since JERSEY DEVIL COASTER will debut in 2021, what if the park did a first-rider auction ride event like Kings Island did with Orion. For every person who raises a certain amount of money ($150 or so) for a given COVID-19 relief fund, they will be granted early access to ride JERSEY DEVIL COASTER before the rest of the general public. Not only would this allow eager riders to get on the coaster before the masses, but the park would also raise money for a great cause. The park could hold the media day, then the fundraiser event, then the membership and pass holder previews, and then the public opening. What do you all think about this idea?

Seems strange that Six Flags would choose an outdated picture for their big Welcome Back campaign which features a coaster (Rolling Thunder) that is not even at the park any longer...

 

 

They probably just went with a picture of their most critically acclaimed roller coaster and didn’t think much of what was in the background. 

Hello all! Longtime lurker and member of gadv.com. I finally decided to sign up over here and fully rejoin the Great Adventure family.

My name is Joe. I’m a 26 year old man from Staten Island, New York. I’m a music teacher and bass player in a cover band (the latter is obviously on hold right now due to this pandemic).

I’ve been visiting Great Adventure since I’m 10 years old. I still remember my first night ride on Nitro which is the moment I became a roller coaster enthusiast. To this day Nitro remains my favorite roller coaster, and I honestly don’t know if any coaster will be good enough to get past my history with that ride, which I’ve ridden well over 100 times at this point and always serves as the finale to my day at the park.

My current username is actually a reflection of my original Great Adventure Source username (I came up with the brilliant NitroKaMedusaMachine name back in I believe 2005). My favorite year of the park was 2006, with El Toro and Kingda Ka still new, Scream Machine, Rolling Thunder, and Chiller still in operation, and Bizarro still with its original name and color scheme. This felt like the year where Gadv truly felt like an elite park with a roller coaster collection that could rival even Cedar Point. The park is certainly more well rounded now, but in terms of its coaster collection, nothing will ever top 2006.

My last visit to the park came in 2018, but I’m hoping to get to the park if and when it opens in 2020. The announcement of Jersey Devil has me excited despite the name (Let’s Go Rangers!), and following the construction is what prompted me to finally sign up here, as it made me incredibly happy to see this community alive and well. Long post I know but I figured it made sense considering how long I’ve been checking out these forums without ever signing up.
