In Frontier Adventures it would be nice if the dialect and ill placed safari station was removed and replaced with western themed flats. The north side of the park has a larger number of dialect or SBNO attractions which has increased this season. You have the old sim theater, the GK theater, the GK water playground, the aformentioned safari station, the Northern Arena, etc, all standing SBNO. Moreover, the park really messed up the pathways and traffic flow around the lakeside of Frontier Adventures. Last year, the park closed off its northern half even before Halloween! It has befome a pretty neglected side of the park.

    Dialect? ;)

I always find it funny the beer window is still there on the back of the building, just like on Tower of Pizza and Eat! Eat!. No matter how many times they've been remodeled the steel roll down door is still there...

Is that because they no longer serve it, or was that just one of those strange NJ laws at one point that required a separate spot for such beverages?

This is usually a case of a spreadsheet that shows costs of operating versus the value of the ride on paper with depreciation. Add to that the number of riders per year as part of the equation and it doesn't look good for older rides. Nostalgia and sentimental value doesn't appear on a spreadsheet.

Disney is having the same issue where the decision makers don't understand the intangibles of a park experience. Magic, wonder, and fun don't show up on spreadsheets.

Unfortunately, they don't realize (as many of the smaller parks have, either intentionally or just due to lack of money to purchase a bunch of new rides to replace ones that they already have) that keeping these types of rides may actually turn out to be beneficial on the financial end as well as from the nostalgia/sentimental viewpoint.

When you are the only park (as was the case here, at least within the US) with this particular ride, you will very likely get some additional people to come to your park just because they want to experience something that is simply not available anywhere else!  If you remove that one thing, they no longer have a reason to come to your park (even from a distance, meaning they are likely buying the more expensive tickets not a yearly pass or similar, and probably getting more things like souvenirs that repeat attendees already have), so that is a fair amount of revenue that never arrives.

This really is a monumental event and GreatAdventureHistory would love to help in any way we can.  Just let us know how we can assist at feedback@greatadventurehistory.com or happlegate@greatadventurehistory.com.

You would think (or at least hope) that they might do something, given that they were willing to work on having the exhibits there in the past as a temporary museum...  Seems only logical that this type of anniversary would be a time for that type of thing to return!

If they still had the drive thru they would have to super salt the walkways for the cars which would cause long term damage to the pavement and park infrastructure as well as to guest's cars. Ice melt salt is pretty much pure entropy to everything it touches.

If you use actual salt, yes.  There are other types of ice melting substances that are less of an issue, just at a higher price.

  6. Makes sense that (even if they weren't questioning previously, though that seems to have been the case) they would close for the 23rd & 24th.  If NJ is anything like it is up here in NY, tomorrow would be great temperature (into the 50's) but heavy rain to go with, then the quick drop to below freezing.

Probably wouldn't even have been a good two days for the drive thru version, were they still doing that (maybe Saturday night would be OK, cold but cleared up, but Friday night is the worst part with the dropping temperature and the remains of precipitation causing issues on the roads).

I have to imagine it’s one of the biggest maintenance nightmares in the park, if not the biggest, due to the fact that it’s the last sky ride in the chain, and one of the last ones of its kind in the world. It definitely has an expiration date, as do most rides, but I don’t see it happening within the near future unless something major happens.

I believe Great Escape would like a word with you about this being the last skyride in the chain ;)

If you live in New Jersey you have probably heard of or already experienced the ban on one use bags that went into effect today.  In honor of all those disposable bags from years past, click below to see a wide selection of what has been offered at Great Adventure since 1974.

It wouldn't stop Great Adventure from using paper bags, since they don't quite qualify as a supermarket ;).  The paper part is ONLY for supermarkets over 2,500 Square Feet.
