Beer ban pondered for Texas Six Flags

Published: Oct. 14, 2008 at 10:25 PM FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Several witnesses urged the Texas Alcoholic Beverages Commission Tuesday to ban beer sales at Six Flags Over Texas.

The call for ending the sale of beer at the amusement park came during a commission hearing held at an area hotel, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

"It is a children's park," Grapevine resident Terry Wilson. "It is not an adult park for drinking."

Carolyn Mitchell of Burleson described a trip to Six Flags Fiesta Texas when she and her family had an unpleasant encounter with two women who had been drinking and had "lost some inhibitions."

Mayor Robert Cluck of Arlington, where the park is located, also opposes alcohol sales. But some members of the city council disagree, saying Arlington gets revenue from the sales taxes. They also pointed out the Rangers Ballpark and other public places near Six Flags sell beer.

Administrative Law Judge Tanya Cooper is expected to rule within 60 days.p-6f-UEpuUYMvwI.gif
