But the Wet ’n’ Wild that was promised in northeast Fort Lauderdale is not coming. After many twists and turns, ascents and plunges, the deal with Premier Parks LLC, owner of Rapids Water Park in Riviera Beach, is dead. The company had sued Fort Lauderdale and was able to wrest a water park deal from competitor Schlitterbahn. The Premier Parks deal was to be voted on Tuesday night. It would have been built on city land north of Commercial Boulevard near Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE). But the CEO of Premier, Kieran Burke, called the city on Thursday to pull out, an internal city email says. Mayor Dean Trantalis said the city wasted enormous resources on the failed deal, and he asked if the city could recover any money from Premier. Interim City Attorney Alain Boileau said Premier will forfeit its $82,500 deposit, but that likely will be the end of it. The city had no contract with the company. “We can certainly look at it,” Boileau said, “but it’d be a difficult argument.” City Manager Lee Feldman said Premier couldn’t afford to renovate Lockhart Stadium at the property to commercial standards, a requirement of the deal. The eight-year odyssey now over, Commissioner Heather Moraitis said the city should move quickly to do something productive with the 65-acre property. “We’re back to square one,” Mayor Dean Trantalis said. The park doesn't exist, it needs to be built. Premier was going to spend $60 million dollars to build it and the original proposal from Schlitterbahn was going to cost $110 million dollars.
