    Six Flags Great Adventure Celebrates 50th Anniversary

    With the Largest Park Investment in Nearly 20 Years

    JACKSON, N.J. ─ August 29, 2023 ─Since 1974,  Six Flags Great Adventure & Wild Safari has been providing ultimate thrills and family entertainment to guests from around the world. In 2024, the property will celebrate 50 years of family fun and thrills with a first-of-its-kind new family roller coaster, a luxury camping experience and off-road adventure within the Wild Safari, and 50th anniversary celebrations.

    “With our largest park investment in almost two decades, we are excited to offer guests of all ages compelling new experiences that make Six Flags Great Adventure the most popular theme park experience in the Northeast during our 50th Anniversary Celebration. In 2024, we will debut our 15th roller coaster, the first-of-its-kind in the Western Hemisphere; and the most unique overnight experience in the country within our 350-acre safari,” said Park President Brian Bacica.

    With innovation in its DNA, Six Flags Great Adventure continues to excite thrill seekers of all ages in 2024. Highlights of new additions include:

    ·        THE FLASH™: Vertical Velocity Presented in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment and DC, the first super boomerang coaster to open in North America rushes forward and backward at nearly 60 miles per hour through a 180-degree twisted drop and zero-G roll. In a flash, it changes direction and speeds off again, backward;

    ·        Luxury Safari Experience  An authentic African lodging experience at the NEW Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa set within the expansive 350-acre Wild Safari Park. Overnight guests will enjoy ultra-luxurious “glamping” accommodations, scenic vistas, spa services and VIP dining, all creating an unforgettable safari getaway;

    ·        Safari Off-Road Adventure Returns– The Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will close this Fall and reopen in 2024 as the Safari Off-Road Adventure giving guests a guided tour offering a more personalized experience through our 350-acre safari. Guests can board safari off-road vehicles in two locations, Frontier Adventures within the theme park or at the main Wild Safari entrance;

    ·        Guests Become a Part of the Adventure– Leading up to the 50thAnniversary Celebration, guests will be invited to become part of the adventure with the purchase of an anniversary brick and keepsake. These bricks will adorn a new pathway located at the theme park’s original entrance;

    ·        Nostalgic Enhancements– Six Flags Great Adventure will add nostalgic elements that give a nod to the park’s history including an upgrade for two original park favorites, the Log Flume and iconic Big Wheel;

    Six Flags Great Adventure is also announcing the Biggest Sale of the Year, featuring discounts of up to 70% on season passes, tickets, and more, available now through September 5. What sets this offer apart is that not only can park visitors enjoy the new 2024 experiences with their season passes, they can also receive admission throughout the remainder of 2023 including access to the highly popular Six Flags Fright Fest.

    Wow, I gotta say, they absolutely killed it here. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the anniversary. Bravo Six Flags!

  2. Anyone know what the deal is with the souvenir bottles? I purchased a diamond pass a couple days ago and when I went to the park they told me that the offer for 2023 expired already. Anyone know when they start selling souvenir bottles for next season?

    The fact that they aren't already selling them is kind of ridiculous. They should be putting them on sale the moment the Flash sale starts.

  3. Six Flags passes went on sale today and I decided to buy a Diamond level pass for the first time.

    I actually didn't expect these passes to go on sale until September, and since I was looking to go to the park sometime this week (I didn't have a pass previously), I was planning on buying a one day ticket with parking included, but ultimately decided against it due to having an ongoing health issue that would make going to any theme park not very fun.

    Turns out the Diamond pass via this Flash sale was only $20 more at the end than a day ticket with general parking. Needless to say, I'm very glad I waited.

    Definitely, that should have been the final teaser and the 436 could have been omitted (as the defining number with the rest being ambiguous).

    Does anyone know the cost of the Super Boomerang? Lech Coaster costed €12M (roughly $13M) in 2017, but also features twice the track length of this. My ballpark guess would be $15M, so I'm not understanding how this was addressed as a huge increase in Capex.

    Perhaps the entire GADV allocated budget was supposed to be for renovations/TLC and then this was thrown in there as an added "gift"? Ironically it'll be the best part of the new season.

    New gen Vekomas are fairly expensive which probably explains why we haven't seen any here in the states. My guess is closer to 20-25 mil and I don't expect the super boomerang to be cloned at other parks, especially considering the ride itself was a last minute addition that wasn't originally planned.

    Fiesta Texas really missed the mark on their teasers for 2024, and honestly this campaign hasn't been great either (but it's justifiable considering the whole park is being renovated). The giveaway of the ride stats happened far too early.. Jersey Devil had an awesome teaser campaign that was actually engaging and interesting

    The stats teaser was honestly pretty disappointing, did they really think enthusiasts weren't going to crack it immediately? They basically slapped the exact ride stats from the Vekoma website on a tweet and called it a hint

    Not that I disagree, but if this truly was a last minute addition for 24 then next year *might* be something already forecasted out. I wouldn't for a second bet on anything coming next year at all even, but there's been a lot of buzz about the arena removal and it's hard to tell smoke from fire.

    When you put it that way it certainly sounds like something could happen, the JRA regime is long gone so who knows what the chain plans on doing.

    but what about the time where six flags great adventure added kingda ka in 2005 & el toro in 2006?, why they didn't did the same for both 2024 & 2025, was it because its was a different time?, if so, we have to wait until a few years for a mega coaster

    Back to back additions like that is part of the reason Six Flags originally went bankrupt. I don't see the chain investing that much into any one park in a two year window ever again. Times were simply different back then.

    sorry for double posting but whatever happen to the rumor of a flat ride package that was meant to come with the new coaster?, is this a multi year thing I mean, think about:

    1999: war on lines

    2000: hurricane harbor

    2001: nitro

    so maybe the next few years will be some similar to the multi year plan I mentioned

    so 2024 is this coaster & 2025 will be a war on lines like package with a mega coaster going into the old northern star arena

    The odds of getting coasters in back to back years is pretty much zero, not even worth speaking into existence to be honest.

    A super boomerang would pretty much be a replacement for Chiller. Even though Chiller had two tracks, the park rarely ran both at the same time.

    Think there's a chance it'll be Chiller themed? As shown with JDC, the park has done a solid job at working to get meaningful theming done for select attractions. The ride itself doesn't even need to bring Batman & Robin into the picture, it could just be Chiller 2 or Chiller Reimagined, something like that.

    So right now we can assume the following for Great Adventure's 50th:

    • First new-gen extreme Vekoma in the US with the Super Boomerang
    • Redone lights package for the Wheel
    • Redone Log Flume in some capacity
    • More than likely a couple other smaller changes

    I don't know about you guys, but I would be really quite happy with this for the celebration. A brand new thrilling roller coaster as well as two well-deserved revamps to two classic Great Adventure rides. This should be an absolute win for next year.

    Agreed. Six Flags Over Georgia didn't really do anything for their 50th anniversary, while Magic Mountain got the JDC clone and nothing else. We should be thankful that the park is doing all of this for us, and while Selim has faced lots of criticism, I gotta admit he seems to have kept his word when saying the GAdv 50th anniversary would be special.

    That 436 seems very telling, as the Vekoma Super Boomerang is that exact length in meters, as they advertise. I do wonder how this fits in with the answer to how the CapEx increased from a “range of like 150 to 200. And now you're up to like 250”, which was said to be related to this “opportunity to add a nice ride kind of late in the game”. Maybe this coaster does cost that much with a turntable added. Looking forward to seeing if the next teasers line up with this coaster theory.

    Honestly I've already talked myself into the boomerang. Outside of capacity, I think it checks alot of boxes (multilaunch forwards and backwards) and it's actually pretty tall, 164ft, meaning it'd be the fourth tallest coaster in the park.

    A new generation vekoma isn't something I think anyone expected to see at a Six Flags park, so I'll happily welcome it.

    So apparently this thing says that the hourly capacity is 800/hour. I did the math and with 24 riders per train, assuming every train is full, this thing is sending out 33 cycles per hour. That is flat-out never going to happen. That seems like a best case scenario with two train operations on a turn table loading platform. That means also they intend on sending out a new train every 1.8 minutes, or 1 minute and 48 seconds.

    I just timed this thing at a 1 minute and 12-second ride cycle from the start of the first launch to stopping on the brake run. That is not including any time for platform movement, riders boarding or leaving the train, etc. Knowing Six Flags, the operations are probably going to suck, but lets be optimistic and say they send a new train out every 1 minute and 30 seconds after arriving in the station Thats saying, a reasonable best case scenario, a train can only be sent out every 2 minutes and 45 seconds, assuming they are not having any kind of turn table loading system. Which would mean a more realistic capacity of 22 ride cycles per hour. Multiply that by 24 and you get an actual hourly capacity of 528 riders per hour. There is no way that can possibly be realistic for a park as big as Great Adventure.

    Unless they are building two of these and paying homage to the Chiller, this thing is going to easily consistently have the most painful wait in the park.

    They'd have to have a duo loading station or else it'd be a disaster. Dueling coasters would be cool but I can't see it happening unfortunately.

    Not necessarily a $30 million ride, but they are spending that much on the park next year between new ride, rehabs, and 50th anniversary stuff overall.

    Are you sure? I remember they said during the conference call that the spike in capex was solely due to the ride being added to the park, not including everything else that was already planned. I could've easily misinterpreted that though.

  14. So with what we've heard so far, I think it's safe to assume (doesn't mean it's confirmed) the following:

    1. The ride, being a last minute addition, was likely intended for another park, but was then cancelled, allowing GAdv to swoop in at the last second. Funnily enough, it will not have been the first time the park has gotten a coaster this way.

    2. Despite this ride being a last minute addition, it's likely going to be fairly expensive, probably around the 30 million dollar range.

    3. It will probably interact with the entrance in some way.

    4. The "Sometimes you have to look down for the best views..." clue is most definitely significant.

    Very exciting next couple of weeks ahead of us.

    I'm so glad GADV decided to not remove Cyborg; I personally felt it was the spiritual successor to Twister. Now it's going to have a neighbor so maybe it'll get more love from park goers in 2024

    I really like what the park has done to develop that area over the past decade. The one thing it seems to be missing is a coaster and it looks like it'll get finally get one!

    From the call regarding increase in upcoming capex:

    "The lift in '24 was somewhat related to... we have a 50th anniversary coming up at our park in New Jersey and we had an opportunity to add a nice ride kind of late in the game and that's a little bit rare because it takes generally a while to design and build a coaster so we had a fortunate opportunity and we decided to take it.  So that's the lift versus what we had expected to spend in the short run."

    Wow. I get that it's the 50th and alot of people were expecting something big, but I can't help but be shocked. If anything this definitely rules out a kiddie coaster barring something extremely unexpected.
