Yankees99
How was that picture taken? Parachuter's Perch wasn't around yet. No way it could have been taken from one of the ferris wheels. Also, check out those long lines to get on the Skyride behind the Fort. It's the one in the Super Sidewinder Spotlight. Somebody got up high and snapped a nice photo of that part of the section in May, 1981.
29yrswithaGApass
That photo was taken by helicopter on May 16th, 1981. Record crowds invaded the park that day for a Marshall Tucker Band concert causing miles and miles of traffic to back up all along Route 537 and I-195. The park gates were closed off due to capacity, but concert goers decided just to abandon their cars and walk into the park. Believe it or not, we will be having a Spotlight on this historic event! Yankees99
Yes, of course. Very famous day in GA history. Wasn't there that day, but do remember seeing this on the news. Great shot. Love all of that double parking out on 537.
Ol'FormerRideOp
Wow... I just had a flashback of an even UGLIER traffic mess... the Andy Gibb concert back in June of either '77 or '78! I can't remember which year exactly... Heck I was 10 for chrissakes!!!
29yrswithaGApass
All that Route 537 traffic in the photo just made me think of the sign they use to have between I-195 and the park: "Great Adventure Traffic - O.K. to Drive on Shoulder" ! Yankees99
I know somebody who was there the day Andy Gibb came to GA. I remember her telling me she went on maybe 5-6 rides the entire day and they had to get on line super early to watch Gibb perform.
