29yrswithaGApass
While I was missing in action last week, I spent a portion of the time at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Bahamas. The theming found within the resort is outstanding and rivals that found at the best theme parks. Dark passages featuring huge floor to ceiling aquariums and Jules Vurne-like props line the corridors of "The Dig" which leads you to the Aquaventure water park area. Every water park needs a big bucket for the kids! The Current has to be one of the best "lazy" rivers, but it is anything but lazy in parts. The river does have its slow moving drifts found at most parks (typically around the enter/exit areas): But with the assistance of wave making machines, portions contain rolling waves that rival the size of those found at many park's wave pools. The Current also features alternative paths to drift down allowing you to chart your own voyage. One of the options takes you to the Power Tower which features high speed coaster slides. In addition, but unfortunately out of sight of public walkways (and I didn't have a waterproof camera with me), another portion of the river features high-speed rapids which are more turbulent then anything found on Congo Rapids or some other raft rides. The amazing part is you travel the entire length past jagged riverbanks but surprisingly the current keeps your tube (and legs) away from the walls. My absolute favorite part was the "human lift hill". Water runs down hill and so do people, so how do they get you back to the top of the river... using a conveyor lift commonly seen transporting empty rafts at most water parks. The difference is this dual belt lift is enclosed inside a rock themed cavern which reminded me of going up the lift hill inside the Matterhorn Mountain roller coaster at Disneyland. Once at the top the belt gently sets you and your tube in the water, and down the next series of rapids you go! The slide structures are well themed and blend perfectly with the tropical landscaping. High speed bodyslides provided an added bonus, allowing you to swim with da fishes! And finally, in the shopping area of the resort Mr.Snyder has set up shop! Atlantis was a great experience. If you happen to be drifting by the place, stop in! You'll have fun!
JetsDevs4Lyf
Looks like you had a blast down there Harry. I figured you must have been up to something great to go MIA for a while from the site, but I certainly can't blame you there. I will say though that all these trips that the members here are taking right now are really making me very jealous and wish I had the spare cash to take a real vacation now
Railer
I always wanted to go down the Waterslide that went thru the Shark tank. Very jealous over here. I haven't been to the Bahamas in about 18yrs. and from the looks of that place I know where i'm going to stay when I go back. How was the Hotel's Casino and Restaraunt's? Like the rest of the resort the restaurants and casino were also extensively themed. I don't really gamble but the casino was similar to any of the higher-end AC ones. Food and beverages were pretty expensive especially since they have a ton of different taxes that are applied.
