  1. Driving. I hate traveling by commercial airliners these days. Not that I am afraid of flying, I always used to enjoy it, it is just the lousy service and mishandling of baggage that puts me off. PLUS, I will be stating in NY, and one does need a car to get over to GA. JS
  2. Ya know what really grinds MY gears? Watching a movie with someone who always manages to turn away and miss the good stuff, then want to know what they missed. makes me nuts.
  3. It approaches fast! So far we have 40+ people going for the day at Flushing Meadow Park. June 22nd, 10am, south parking lot of the Queens Museum. Anyone here interested in going?
  4. Well, the big trip is only a couple weeks out now! I am so looking forward to visiting Great Adventure again after all these years! So now that the park is up and running again and people have gone there, is there any new advice to be given? I am still planning on hitting the Kingda Ka as soon as the rope drops. I already have my ticket, so I won't need to wait on the ticket line. Do they still let people in the turnstiles 30 minutes before opening and let them wait up by the fountain until the rope drop? I seriously am so worked up about riding the Kingda Ka, I need to get there immediately before a single drop of rain might fall and shut the ride down. lol How about the flat rides? I know most of them are gone, but I'm a bit confused about the status of the Round Up and the Flying Wave. Are they gone too? How are the lines for Dark Knight? Also, I forgot to ask about the lines for Superman. I was thinking of hitting Superman after the Kingda Ka, then take a ride on the Scream Machine to calm down before I go on El Toro. can't wait! I'll be coming from Staten Island that day. How's the toll on the NJTPK from exit 10-exit 7a? Also, I might grab a room somewhere after the day is done, so as not to drive back to Staten Island that same day. I know that there are rooms right outside the park, but they are probably ridiculously priced. Anyone have advice on that? Thanks for the help!
  5. Any luck yet tracking the commercial? I wonder if the Museum of Broadcasting in NYC might have it. How about those lyrics?
  6. They took out the Flying Wave? No way!!!
  7. Does Dream Street go all the way through again, or is it still blocaded by the planter in front of the 4 tents?
  8. I noticed that if you purchase your tickets on line it is about $20 cheaper. Does that run through the whole season, or was it just for before opening day? See this link... http://www.sixflags.com/greatAdventure/tickets/index.aspx
  9. I forgot to mention the web site has 8 pages, including construction shots and views from the towers.(you can see the Great Adventure skyride in a couple of the shots!) If you only saw the home page, you missed the best stuff! I am hosting an event on Sunday, June 22 at Flushing Meadow Park. We will be touring the Tent of Tomorrow as well as several other World's fair sites. All are welcome!
  10. Since Great Adventure has it's own legacy of the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair,(the Von Roll Skyride) I thought I would mention here a website I created last November to inspire public awareness of the plight of another World's Fair legacy, which is now on the list of world's most endangered historical structures. This amazing structure is in need of some very serious help. Have a look at the site- you might just see the skyride cruising the skies in the distance. http://tentoftomorrow.com/default.aspx
  11. Did it stay at the same location for it's entire lifespan, even though it served two purposes? I'm still in recovery from the Giant Wheel lighting fixture puzzle. I had it in the back of my mind and almost nailed it. So I shall proceed with caution on this one.
  12. I never even heard of the Houdini ride until I found this forum. What exactly is it? Not another "Star Tours" type simulator I hope.
  13. We were discussing this same thing on the "Peace Through Understanding" forum, which is dedicated to the World's Fair. It's a Small World made it's debut at the 1964 New York World's Fair, and after the fair closed, it was dismantled and brought to Disneyland. The folks at PTU are also quite disgusted with this change to the classic ride. I have to sympathize with both sides of the coin on this one. Personally, I can't stand the ride because it is so long and repetetive. 2 minutes into the ride, I just want to jump off and swim out. but that is me personally, so I simply opt out of riding the thing and go on different rides that don't get under my skin. I despise, however, this gross commercialization that Disney is forcing onto people who already spend a fortune simply visiting the parks. There was a classic attraction at Walt Disney World called "the enchanted Tiki Room" that features audio animatronic singing birds. Kitchy, yes. But also entertaining. 10 years ago, Disney decided to "enhance" the attraction by adding the obnoxious birds from "Aladdin" and "Lion King", who loudly interrupt the original show and completely kill off all charm. Wheras I saw the original Tiki room countless times, I only saw the new one once. Once is enough. Happily, the original Tiki room in Disneyland remains intact, without the obnoxious interruption. The Disney movies of the early to mid 1990's were considered a "rennaisance" of Disney animation. "Little Mermaid",Beauty and the Beast", Aladdin", Lion King", "Hercules" and Tarzan are all excellent movies. However, now that CGI and Pixar are the animation leaders, old school Disney Cartoons are a thing of the past. They just don't make them anymore. The "Rennaisance" of the 90's is over, and now they are just scraping the bowl. I am sick of being force fed the characters of Aladdin and Lion King. Disney never force fed us on the original classics, like Cinderella and Snow White, they ran their course then moved on, their max out being costumed characters in the theme parks. Now, everywhere you go on Disney Property it is "Monsters inc" "Lilo and Stitch" etc. Makes me sick. You can't go 10 yards without some merchandise location ramming 21st century Disney Characters down your through. Better to go to Coney Island and get your pocket picked, it's practically the same crime. Keep the films on film or DVD, and stop raping old Walt's classic rides. I always loved Disney, especially when Walt was alive, but since the late 90's they have become a sell out. A sad, transparent, over commercialized simulacrum of a world that has moved on long ago. And it's a damn shame, too.
  14. I thought of that too, but they wouldn't fit in with the purpose no longer needed clue. How many cars are on the Giant Wheel? I was also thinking some kind of fixture on the cars, but again, that wouldn't fit into the no longer needed clue.
  15. I was thinking the top of an old pay phone, but later for that. Trying to determine if those are hydraulic hoses or electrical lines, then I might be able to figure it out.
  16. The Buccaneer? I would hate to be speared by an umbrella on that ride!
  17. It could be any ride! How about a clue?
  18. Wow, now it rings a bell. I probably never would have remembered that!!
  19. Holy cow this thing is driving me nuts! It's on the tip of my memory. My kid sister got involved with this. I remember it. I've been trying to call her and get her to check out this board before I go stark raving mad. 3 yellow balls. Not a game. Interactive for kids. Not at the boardwalk. I need to get my kid sister in here to have a look, she would remember for sure. ya know, for some reason I remember disliking this thing. The witch annoyed me. Now I dislike it even more. lol
  20. Ya know, I actually saw that Witch in my sleep last night. This puzzle is driving me crazy~~ I know I saw that witch, I remember it....but I can't remember where!! Wow. Not a puppet theater, nor arcade nor shooting gallery. Hmmmm..... was there a dry ice effect in the cauldron? I'm thinking it was some kind of interactive thing for kids where items were "added" to the pot. Perhaps the fresh candy store?
