Six Flags’ Holiday in the Park® Returns with New Festive Entertainment and Nostalgic Winter Thrills

 

Jackson, NJ — November 20, 2023 — Holiday in the Park, Six Flags Great Adventure’s spectacular holiday festival, will once again dazzle in 2023. Weekends and select days November 24 through January 1, 2024, the World’s Ultimate Thrill Park will present a wonderland of winter fun. This enchanting holiday experience features 11 specially-themed areas that will immerse guests in the sights and sounds of the holidays. The new map and guide for Holiday in the Park 2023 is out and can be viewed below (click on image for larger version).  It looks like the event has been trimmed down a little bit this year with the following changes:

Deck the Halls area (upper games area with Superman, Green Lantern, and Twister) closed

Backyard Xmas (games area) closed

Frost indoor stage show in Showcase Theatre closed

Six Flags Holiday Market closed

Big Wheel closed

Christmas Tree Maze removed

Holiday Hay Maze removed

New Year's Eve Celebration removed

Second Tree Show at fountain added - Holiday Magic:  A Celebration of the Season

Douglas's Jolly Joy Ride added - holiday hayride

Live & Local added - local bands and choirs

I found one of these and will post the differences between this version and the other two similar iterations soon.

Unlike when it was first announced that they were going to close California's Great America, there is now a chance (albeit small) that Great Adventure could get their Columbia Carousel!

Harry, what's the history of the park putting out a "We're at capacity!" notice like they did this weekend?

It has only been recently that the park has posted crowd and weather updates on social media but the park has been pushed to the brink of capacity before including big name concerts and Fright Fest around Halloween.  In the past it has mostly resulted in putting up “Park is Crowded - You may wish to come back another day” signs or closing the gates to the parking lot when it is full like in 1981 for Marshal Tucker Band or 1986 for the Monkees.

One interesting note, the "On the Boardwalk" dark ride which featured an omnimover set of bright yellow rolling chairs was relocated to Wildwood following Tivoli's closure.  The cars were enclosed, dirtied, and reopened as "Zombie World - Laser Shooting Haunted House Ride."

I remember going here in the late '80s.  Here are some pamphlets and a mug from the "park".
