  1. My first visit to Holiday World made it my once least favorite park. After a return trip I learned that I went the wrong time of year for me. It wasn't over 100 degrees and the treeless waterpark and the heated pools were a plus on a cool May day. It wasn't crowded and I could ride the tornado and toilet bowl slides. The coasters were much better maintained and Voyage became my favorite wooden coaster and the other cracked my top favorites. The park does have a horrible layout and a less than friendly attitude towards enthuisasts, but after Holiwood Nights, I would give the park another try. Kings Island and Great Escape were also huge disappointments, but I will give GE another try. The only thing going for KI is already at KD or SFA. I may go back but I will be kicking and screaming.
  2. I forgot all about the 1985 closure of the ride. I used to go to the park once a year then, but it wasn't until I saw the spotlight that I remembered that. Thank you guys!
  3. I hope it wouldn't be the Parachutes or anything good. I am hoping for Jolly Roger, Tango or Top Rotate.
  4. The Monster was one of my favorite rides as a kid and it was one of my favorites on my trip to SFGAm!
  5. Eh, this sounds more like a 15-year-old's wet dream. Kind of like the dive coaster, the ball coaster, and the 4D. If HH were to receive anything new, I think a racer slide complex or a master blaster water coaster would be the better choice. These rides are allot more fun and are better with capacity.
  6. The '9 years are always the best. '79 gave us RT, '89 yielded GASM and '99 saw the WoL. I hope next year is something like that for the everybody's sake...more so '99 than '89!
  7. I know it sounds dark, but it makes me wonder what I will see on my next park visit. I missed this one by one day. EDIT: Oh again, it happened on a Saturday. When all the bottom-scrapers are at parks...
  8. That's a great idea to use Old Country during Fright Fest. I'm not a fan of FF because I like to be scaired but I love the FF Fridays when the park is deserted. That could be a time you could have ridden Freefall 64 times in a row. In 2001 on one of the Fridays in FF, the park closed all of the pay attractions and had all of the spin rides open, except for Sombrero which was being dismantled. It was quite a memorable night! It was the last time I rode Jump. I wonder if that is the kind of night you remember gafreak? The Blues Brews and BBQ Festival was held on the same days as Coaster Celebration in mid-September a few days years ago but those were some crowded days!
  9. The park still uses blot out to clean up those natural causes. It does have a distinct odor. Knoebels is located an hour and a half northwest of Allentown. It's a park with lots of old-fashioned spin rides and two top-notch wooden coasters. The Hauned House is the icing on the cake. I've never come out of there without jumping at something that pops out of its dark rooms.
  10. It wasn't SFoG's fault, but I personally would love to see themed walls placed around the ride. It's an added expense, but when it's impossible to enter the track area, it's impossible for this to happen, to a guest. Now this happening to an employee is another story all together. Because of what happened on Scream at Magic Mountain a few years ago, coaster operators can't enter their own track area without a shutdown of the ride. Now guests MUST wait until the next day to be able to get their lost articles, unless it is life or death like medication. Chain link fences just seem to scream "Climb me" much louder than the red signs state "Danger Zone" or "Restricted Area." Some guests are just that stupid. A teenager who came off a school bus on a Saturday just seems to be the cream of the stupidity crop.
  11. I could still smell the cedar smell in the station, but it usually was at night after everybody had gone for the day. The best place for it is inside Knoebel's Haunted House!
  12. Colossus isn't bad Dainan, but it would be better with wood cross beams, not steel. I told my friends that Evel Kneivel would make a nicer fit at MM but I wasn't brave enough to take it to the net!
  13. Wow...cool! No B&M trains MM. Woodies don;t need theming. They just need...nevermind.
  14. Happy birthday J4sing. Enjoy your day at the park today! Ride the Green train on Coaster I and the Yellow Train on Coaster II on Rolling Thunder!
  15. I thought I wouldn't remember the Batman commercial, but it brought me right back to junior year all over again. Thanks guys. Definitley the best of the three! You In, or you Out? Pffft. Chiller is Out!
  16. Family amusement parks....Disney excluded. :-) Tilt-a-whirls or Tea Cups?
  17. Nice vid Dainan. Why didn't I go again?
  18. Thanks for taking pics Harry! I haven't had my camera with me latley. I saw one of the Dark Knight billboards on the NJ side of the Ben Franklin Bridge on the way from Dorney. I had a couple of peaceful visits on the past two Sundays. On the first, I waited an hour wait for Nitro and an hour for TDK for a couple of really good rides on both. I took my first night time ride on the skyride in years, right before the parade. I went for a nice walk-on dark ride on The Log Flume, which I haven't had in years. It reminds me of the days when I used to come at night on my days off to ride some flats. I finished the night with walk-on night rides on El Toro and Rolling Thunder. I chose between the waterpark and Safari this past Sunday. I went in the Safari because I was with a friend who had never been to either park and I didn't want to try Hurricane Harbor if it was crowded. It was a tough call as the water park didn't look terribly crowded, but after a day near 100 degrees at Dorney, preceeded by a day of cutting grass in the same weather, I was done with the heat. So were the animals! It had been 6 years since I drove my car through the park. After a night in Ocean City, I felt it couldn't get any more NJ than this. The animals all hung out in their respective ponds and under the trees. The only movement we saw were the brown bears and their baby cubs playing in a pond. There was a hornEy auodad who almost ran into a mustang. There were hardly any cars in there at 12 noon and I was free to switch lanes as I pleased. The lions were hard to spot and the tigers were all passed out, but we're going to go through the Safari again on a cooler day in the Fall. We were going to take a spin on GASM, Parachutes and Rolling Thunder, but we saw taht the crew was doing such a horrible job at racing the trains from teh Exploration Station that we figured we would spare the hour of heat and come back another, cooler day.
  19. Wow, did that bring me back! I think I remember the Salty Dog running for a couple of years, but my memories from those years were a bit foggy. We never passed by there at the right time. It was always a stop at the Buccaneer for my mom and a stop at Condor for me!
  20. I went to Holiday World's Splashin' Safari a couple of weeks ago and loved it. They had the funnel and the toilet bowl slides. They were neat gimmick rides and I think the kids would like them, but I just happened to prefer the traditional slides. I had been to Splashin' Safari three years ago in the end of June on a 100 degree day and hated it. You couldn't get near the funnel slide without waiting in an hour+ line. I'm glad it kept the lines at the other slides down a bit. A funnel slide at HH would be untouchable during a hot day in the summer, but it would be a good value now, especially today! Hurricane Harbor is my favorite waterpark and I have to get back there soon.
  21. ^ Oh, Dainan! Robin. Coaster 1 or Coaster 2?
  22. Grrr. I'm a water kind of guy. The only deal for me is the water fountain. I'm using the season passholder book for the first time in a few years tho. Very good value!
  23. LOL! My favorite Batman was the one from 2006. I used to have a picture with him and the rest of the Justice League but my computer ate it. He could have defintley set anybody straight!
  24. They won't be building a new theme park around these guys. ;-)
