  1. Easily return of "The Flying Wave" (Zierer Wave Swinger) and the "Enterprise". Zierer Wave Swinger in its traditional Bavarian theming, or custom overlay (be it the giant mushroom, tortoise, or "Gotham City Crime Wave")?
  2. You might need to install Quicktime Player or VLC. It's a Motion JPEG encoded file. VLC can be found at: http://www.videolan.org Easily my favorite media player. It's available in Windows, Mac OS, and Linux flavors.
  3. Watching the falling loop video was kind of sad. "The Great American Scream Machine" leaves Great Adventure absent of any dignity. I'd love to know how much Six Flags is earning for the scrapped steel.
  4. I would guess it's from grading "El Toro's" first turnaround and perhaps the lift hill area.
  5. Stingrays Since Community was mentioned, Alison Brie ("Annie") or Gillian Jacobs ("Britta")?
  6. "Superman Ultimate Flight" is a fun attraction in my humble opinion. I would hate to see the ride leave, but I might reconsider for a B&&M Dive Machine. "Superman Ultimate Flight" might have a better reputation if Six Flags would properly staff it. Not having 4 people on restraints seems ridiculous. "Superman Ultimate Flight" would be a good fit for Six Flags over Texas.
  7. Unless land value spikes in the New Jersey Pine Barrens; I think Great Adventure is safe. I guarantee every theme park operator (save Disney perhaps) would bid on the complex if Six Flags folded or divested it. Cedar Fair might even leave the animal exhibits this time! Now if it was on Long Island, I'd be scared.
  8. God how I wish Sea World Parks & Entertainment bought the complex! Expedition Everest! (Especially if "Tower of Terror" is based on the DCA or EuroDisney Version) If Sea World did buy Great Adventure, would you prefer a Sea World or Busch Gardens style overhaul?
  9. While I abhor fast food pizza like Papa John's, Johnny Rockets would be my first choice to eliminate. (I know I'm too late for GACoaster's question, but I'd probably lean towards "Joust-A-Bout" with its more gentile nature. Both rides were among my favorites, so it's a tough personal choice.) Original New York's World Fair Skyway Cars (and their bucket seats), or the Marriott's Great America transplants?
  10. I personally miss the "Frontier Adventures" western themed music. It never should have been replaced by modern "country" fare. The section loses that "old west" feeling largely because of it.
  11. I also miss the Premier Parks theming initiatives. Granted, sometimes they have produced some stinkers (The "Nitro" station and Magic Mountain's "Scream" come to mind). However, when they took the time to theme a section; they went all out. Time Warner made great efforts with "Batman The Ride", The "Skull Mountain" Facade & queue, "Batman & Robin: The Chiller". Premier Parks just took it to the next level with Hurricane Harbor New Jersey, "The Golden Kingdom", "Plaza de Carnivale", and the "Looney Tunes" Sections. Had Premier not lost their proxy fight, I wonder what Great Adventure would look like today?
  12. Train around the lake. Kind of a shame Great Adventure didn't have or maintain a master plan for building out. It would have been great if the entire park could have been encircled by a railroad. Even if one was incorporated into the park ala Six Flags St. Louis would have been great. "Calypso" (with its original theming and light package) or HUSS "Breakdance"?
  13. I'll state enclosed well themed "dark ride shooter" ala "Men in Black" or "Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin". 1st Generation Intamin/Giovanola Freefall or Intamin Gyro Drop?
  14. I remember Doritios sponsoring "Rolling Thunder" around the same (1990 or so). Didn't those Jay Leno "Crunch all you want, we'll make more" ads air on the queue TVs too?
  15. Damn! I was referring to structural costs, but I would think a new canvas could be procured more cheaply. It won't be the hand painted canvas Warner LeRoy commissioned for his "Enchanted Forrest", but I would hope something could be arranged. I stand corrected on the cost. I wish the park would reintroduce these or at least consider incorporating stage lighting. Dark areas of the park are more foreboding than inviting, and ruin the idea of a "safe and clean" park in my opinion.
  16. With all due respect, "The Super Teepee" could have been rebuilt from scratch for probably as little as $30,000. Management probably decided against spending the paltry sum to rebuild it, because the facility sat mostly vacant and generated zero revenue the previous season. It was "easy pickings" to eliminate. Sadly, nobody was able to successfully quantify its aesthetic/atmospheric value on an Excel spreadsheet. The "Main Street JumboTron" probably cost more than a new "Super Teepee", and I can assure you its not generating enough ad revenue to pay for itself yet. While it's quasi-ride related, I miss the incandescent lighting that was once prominent in the theme park. Rides like "Traffic Jam", "Enterprise", "Calypso", "The Flying Wave", "Super Roundup", "Scrambler" and "Pretty Monster" really did a lot to brighten the now either dark or halogen lit sections of the park with their elaborate lighting. Didn't trees in the park used to be strung with clear/white string lighting near "The Big Wheel"? There are too many dark sections of the park. Can we please get some new trees planted in all the non-canopied areas too?
  17. If it's like Universal Islands of Adventure's "Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges", then definitely a "rapids style" ride. "It's A Whole New Adventure" or "More Flags More Fun (Mr. Six Version)"?
  18. Losing "The Great American Scream Machine" to the scrap heap, versus moving it to Six Flags America or a smaller owned park is the worst. I'd hate to imagine what Six Flags would do if they lost "Chang", considering how they hastily ripped down the Arrow Megalooper. While Great Adventure needs "flat" rides, losing "The Great American Scream Machine" for anything less than a marquee attraction would be disastrous amongst the GP regardless of ridership. Look at how "The Dark Knight" was perceived as the death knell for "Batman & Robin: The Chiller" despite the latter's almost constant downtime.
  19. I figured this would be the result. Honestly, Six Flags couldn't have hoped for a better deal. "Chang" alone surpasses the value of the divested real estate in this depressed market. Six Flags also receives $2.35M in cash as well as $2.5M in tax debt and $2.8M in rent to the Kentucky State Fair Board forgiven. They also avoid a protracted lawsuit regarding "Chang" for possibly removing it under false pretenses, having to relocate the B&M Standup back to Louisville, and suffering punitive damages. Six Flags also is forgiven any obligation to upgrade the water park in exchange for "Chang". Most of the rides at Kentucky Kingdom are still leased, so leaving them in Kentucky also is a benefit. Any equipment remaining at Kentucky Kingdom is more of a liability for Six Flags than an asset. Either Six Flags would incur the cost to remove/relocate and/or dispose of the items, or sell them at auction for pennies on the dollar. This is a great deal for Six Flags, but the Kentucky State Fair seemingly wants to reopen the park rather than keep it in litigation limbo. I still believe the Kentucky State Fair could have made a case for damages regarding "Chang".
  20. Every time I hear someone say "Great Adventures", I can't help but laugh. Any word on Angel's due date?
  21. There's a lot of women in that park. Did he get everybody in there pregnant? (Before you take offense, please understand the "I'm a get everybody in here pregnant" line is a long standing Tracy Morgan Joke.)
  22. I have no problems with "The Great American Scream Machine" ("GASM") leaving Great Adventure. Good riddance has mostly been my sentiment. I just don't think the scrap heap is the place she should be going. Six Flags has many parks that would benefit greatly from "GASM". Unless they're getting something to the tune of $5M for all that steel ("GASM" had a $7.6M tag in 1989), then it seems stupid to simply throw it away. Heck, why not try to sell it? Unlike "Batman & Robin: The Chiller", "GASM" has years of rock solid, low cost operations under her belt with no signs of stoppage. In parks where Vekoma Steel rules the land, "The Great American Scream Machine" might feel like a new B&M to their patrons. Six Flags America in particular could have utilized it. Alas, I'm ready to say the Al Weber era is going to be no different than the Shapiro era. That is truly sad for me.
  23. I guess these Facebook photos confirm they're scrapping the venerable Arrow Megalooper. What a waste.
  24. I'd sooner marathon all day on "The Great American Scream Machine" than ride any Vekoma 10-loop coaster. I'd rather keep the Arrow Megalooper over installing such a monstrosity.
  25. Nostalgia is kind of creeping in on me. I'm actually sad to see it close. Of course, a ride in the back seat can easily remedy that sentiment. (I just don't want to see them scrap the thing when a small Six Flags park could use it.)
