  1. This was one of the most special things about the original GA entrance. You walked in there after getting your ticket and Dream Street just captured your imagination. Your mind and body would be going in different directions. You had no idea what would be around the corner. I never had a problem with the new entrance in 1976, but it just wasn't the same. They say every picture tells a story. Here's proof of that!
  2. Thank you so much. I have not seen this in over 30 years. Salty The Dolphin. LOL
  3. Did anybody ever have their own ViewMaster Reel of GA? I had one of them, but it broke (I bought mine in one of the tents on Dream Street). If you still do have that collectors gem, is there anyway we could see it and the photos?
  4. On that second photo down on the spotlight, that was exactly the place where I got a balloon (Big Wheel) and a pennant (Safari) when I went there in 1974. The clown blowing up the balloon. I lost the balloon about 15 minutes later getting on a ride at Ride-A-Rama. What cherished memories.
  5. I know somebody who was there the day Andy Gibb came to GA. I remember her telling me she went on maybe 5-6 rides the entire day and they had to get on line super early to watch Gibb perform.
  6. Once again for you old-timers, do any of you remember when GA served host to the show "Soap Factory?" They had some popular acts of the mid to late 70s perform there and dance up and down Dream Street. Pretty sure that happened in 1979. That year, I went to GA in July and recall them lightly promoting it. Now, even better, was anybody at GA in late August 1982 when NYC classic rock radio station WPLG came down to GA and passed out Bruce Springsteen bumper stickers somewhere between the edge of the parking lot to the front entrance? It was geared to promote The Nebraska Tour. I remember the place being packed to the rafters and we must have gotten about 10 of those stickers.
  7. Yes, of course. Very famous day in GA history. Wasn't there that day, but do remember seeing this on the news. Great shot. Love all of that double parking out on 537.
  8. How was that picture taken? Parachuter's Perch wasn't around yet. No way it could have been taken from one of the ferris wheels. Also, check out those long lines to get on the Skyride behind the Fort. It's the one in the Super Sidewinder Spotlight. Somebody got up high and snapped a nice photo of that part of the section in May, 1981.
  9. I had all of them at least several times, but I was a grape juice guy first and foremost. Before we'd head back home for the two-hour drive from Jackson to Long Island, we'd stock up on a couple of drinks. We'd drink them in the car before falling asleep in the backseat. The next day, we'd wash them out and build a collection. Yes, the memories and tradition!
  10. After looking at those pictures again of the Bakery just now, it dawned on me that I remember getting those famous fruit drinks just up Dream Street near Yum Yum Palace. My favorite was the grape drink and I thought it was the best thing on a warm and humid summer day. Like tradition. They came in a plastic container, basically shaped like the flavor it was with those plastic-like straws! Do they even sell those at the park still? What was your favorite drink?
  11. I recall the docks always being there. You could get down there via pathways from the restaurant. In the times I went there in the early days, I don't recall ever seeing the paddle boats out there. It could also be entirely possible that they were not operating the days I was there. Are the docks still there?
  12. What was your favorite Enterprise ---the first or second? Rode the first one just a couple of times and rode the second one probably around 20 times.
  13. If you look at the picture with the kid and note, you notice the attraction is off limits. It was just some sort of prop.
  14. I remember seeing that. It was just a decoration, so to speak. I have NOT seen that since 1975.
  15. Saw that and those pictures. Quite depressing. I see they still have that operator mirror up in place up in the back. What a ride!
  16. Great group. Great song. Just flashing back (Have had a tendency to do that when looking at this site:) on some of the other songs I remember the operators playing. Another one that popped into my mind was Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do." That was in 1977. I remember a guy sitting a row in front of us saying we should have been allowed to ride the whole time during the duration of the song. It's a 15-minute song!!! The ride operator started laughing so hard. He said something like, "If I did that, you guys would have passed out spinning around all this time." Oh, the memories!
  17. Had the radio on the other day while driving and heard Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs." Have heard the song millions of times since 1976, but it somehow flashed in my mind that was the song the ride operators for Music Express played the first time I rode that ride that year. Does anybody remember the song played the first time you went on it?

Very nice and descriptive report. Sounds like you had a blast!
  19. Nice photos, though the only things I recognized were the view from the Big Wheel and The Fort. When did they spray paint Parachuter's Perch?
  20. I seem to recall that the park would start making the early rounds of closing down around 11:30-11:45 p.m. However, the rides near the front entrance (Flying Wave, Enterprise, Bumper Cars and the Carousel) would keep going right up to midnight. IF the ride was a minute or two long, the operators usually made sure to get everybody on the ride who was on line. IF they could spare a couple of extra minutes, they'd let them go on the ride again without having to get off it. That happened to me one night with the Flying Wave and a couple of times when Magic Mountain stayed open late and we could ride a coaster twice.
  21. GA, That's good stuff. Didn't know that, but it makes sense. Incidentally, check out the photo of the ride operators sitting on the railing of the Buccaneer with it in motion. Think they'd get away with that now?
  22. Found my copy of the guidebook a few days ago and noticed something. On Page three in the Flying Wave picture, there's a guy near the right-hand corner wearing a concert T-shirt. On Page six, the same guy is watching the Dolphin Spectacular (just to the right of the middle dolphin).
  23. How many of you old-timers remember the days when GA opened at 10 a.m. and closed at midnight? They actually stayed open until 12:30 a.m., but how many of you stayed there from the minute they swung open the gates until the last seconds of the park being closed?
  24. Just looking at these photos brings back wonderful memories. I feel like I'm 6 years old all over again. Reminds me of the first time I saw these rides in person when I went about a month after the park opened its doors. Thank you very much for putting this section up:)
  25. Yes, they showed him on the Skyride, riding the carousel and taking the plunge down (front row) the Log Flume. Excellent feature. Surprised they didn't say "Six Flags Great Adventure" instead of "an amusement park in New Jersey" in the report:)
