  1.

What gave you that idea :Spikey:

Well now I guess I'm joining the team, unfortunately.

And from Great Adventures FB Post for it this morning, they are marketing it like i said they would a couple post's ago on the "Total Mayhem" thread. "The Joker has taken over Total Mayhem at Great Adventure". Next year Batman will "strike back", makes perfect sense. Another little thing........

Do you think that it will eventually be brought back to Total Mayhem, or that another Batman related addition will occur in the park? Its not that a Joker theme ruins the whole idea or experience, but its getting kind of redundant.

  2. The one photo looks like a poster of the Seattle Worlds Fair.

Yeah I believe you're right. They also had promotional art for Expo 71 and even some antique renderings of the World's Fairs over in Europe.

There are still all the original paintings and pictures on the walls from when the fair was around I wish I took pictures.

That's awesome, I would have loved to see that. It shocked me as to which structures they left intact and which ones they decided to demo. Do you know if the place has been remodeled since the fair, or is it relatively the same?

  3. After years of being so close to it, my family decided we finally wanted to take the time to visit the grounds for the New York World’s Fair. We spent a lot of time looking up the old maps and attractions and literally penciling it in on the areas of the modern park map. We arrived around noon and were surprised at how massive the place really is. We started off by circling the perimeter of the park and catching the major features.

This concrete footing that I'm standing by was just a few meters away from where the Swiss Sky Ride was back in the 1964/65 fair. Originally we thought this the footing to the sky ride, but a second glance of the map seemed to prove otherwise. Perhaps it was left over from the 1939 fair.

If you go to 4:38 of this video, he rides and discusses the Swiss Sky Ride. It’s funny, even back then the one-way trip policy was an issue for people. That whole series is very informative, I recommend watching the videos before going.

These fountains were in front of the General Electric pavilion. In fact you can find photos online where both the fountains (and some much younger trees) can be seen in front of the Carousel of Progress.

By the way the car in the back is ours. We were delighted to find how easy it was to drive around the park. There were no signs that prohibited driving, parking or stopping. To our surprise a park ranger found us later and told us to move. What was weird was how perplexed he seemed at how we had gotten to where we were. We didn’t understand why he was so confused, there were no signs or barriers anywhere. Parking is free, but walking around from the parking lot wasn’t so fun in the cold.

    This was the main entrance.

The time capsule. I always had a hunch that it would be opened earlier than 5,000 years from now.

The New York State Pavilion had just received a fresh coat of paint. Further work is budget-pending, I believe.

For comparison, here's four original photos my family has had of the fair back in 1964.

Queens Museum of Art, which served as the NYC pavilion for both Worlds Fairs. The outside is similar but the interior has clearly received some renovation over the years.

The panorama model of New York City was built for the 1964/65 fair, and the last time it was updated was in 2009. I was once again amazed at how huge this things was. You could really spend a lot of time in there. I recommend looking up the history on the museum’s site, it’s really amazing. Worth the trip alone.

Upstairs there were all kinds of artifacts, souvenirs, signs, and models from both fairs as well as signage and posters for some other related events.

They had maps of both fairs too. Next time we won’t need to write up our own maps, this will come in handy.

In the gift shop they were giving away original guidebooks and postcards from the fair’s second year. At first I thought it was too good to be true but a quick Google search proved it right. You can get them online for about 7 dollars. The fair was very expensive and was ultimately somewhat of a failure. They must have made so many of these that they’re practically worthless. Didn’t stop me.

After the museum, we went back to the car and drove across the highway to catch a few more things.

This pavilion served as the landing pad for The Beatles when they played at Shea Stadium.

    Flushing NY Helicopter Landing

This trip was fantastic. Just loads of fun and just interesting. We saw too much to even share every element, and we didn’t even see all of it. I look forward to returning when it’s a bit warmer (and the fountain is working) so I can really spend my time catching all the details and beautiful things this park has to offer. My dad and I said that if time travel was possible, we would use it for things like this to see the Fair in its prime. If you’re into theme parks or history, this is a nice trip you can take that will probably be a little more unique.

  4. I feel like a many people aren't too happy about the coaster. I think that its a great idea. Its going to add an experience that the park never really had before in an area that could use improvement. Maybe this will pave the way for a little more expansion in this area. The way I see it, its not another super hero themed coaster built out into the parking lot. And lines are always going to be chaos for any new major ride. I don't think that's something that's exclusive to SFGA. But as a few have pointed out, the loose article policy (and the way it is enforced) doesn't help shorten the lines. But I don't think that means that the coaster is the problem. Now if Total Mayhem is themed to the Joker or any super hero character, I will be disappointed that we lost all that for just another super hero coaster. That's probably one of my latest pet peeves. I don't suppose there's any rumor or word on whether we will be getting another form of dolphin show elsewhere? I guess the show's attendance wasn't doing so hot lately?

  5. I think Disney has a pretty good system. The thrill rides have a pouch with a semi-elastic band on the top that keeps the articles inside pretty well. I've never had a problem with it. But guests would be warned that six flags is not responsible for lost or stolen articles, and are advised to use the ride lockers. In a dream world, these lockers would be free, like Universal. With that said, I don't have a problem with the park offering paid all-day lockers in the front of the park.

  6. I think that the best compromise would be to have a large central kids area with multiple themes and separate areas. The area back behind Seaport would be good for this kind of expansion, although speaking of coasters, that's a good spot for one as well. I'm very curious as to what direction they may take in the future.

all the kids rides in one place you say? ::cough cough:: Bugs Bunny land.

And yeah, definitely. When I was little, my parents would spend the majority of the day there and then travel over to the Seaport. Now kids have to go from the Seaport to BBNP, not to mention a lot of the families get lost trying to find Splashwater.

  7. All of these are pretty good ideas. I agree with GAcoaster in that I've been wanting one centralized children's location. That's also right by lost parents. I personally think that expanding out in the Rolling Thunder region would be good. While they're at it, fill in the gap with a path that can connect the traffic from Ka to Toro. Someone else said this on another forum, but doing this with added shops, food, etc. would be really nice. There's really a lot of ways they can go with this, and the only one I personally would not rather see is another parking lot expansion. It just isn't necessary. I'm even fine with the location of Total Mayhem, it makes a lot of sense.

  8. Yeah and people saw the survey markings on the ground and thought it was development for a new coaster. Thanks for the thorough answer, I pretty much knew that and that's what I told her but I just wanted to share an outsider's thoughts. I thought it was interesting that she thought of the same thing that people discuss and debate on over the forums here.

  9. Yes definitely true, but I was alluding more to why the Old Country area has been closed for so long. As for the other areas, I imagine if all of them were open at this time, but with weather aside like you said, staffing might also be a factor since the park is short on employees.

  10. Minas_Morgul-0.jpg

For some reason Poinsettia Peak reminded me of Minas Morgul from the Lord of the Rings movies, if anyone remotely gets my reference at all. If you've seen the 1978 version, I think there's even more of a resemblance.

  11. I'm not a big fan of hot chocolate but I must say that the hot chocolate at Holiday in the Park is awesome. I even splurged and got one of those funnel cakes. I rode Skyscreamer last night and regretted it immediately as the ride got to the top. It was nice to see Skull Mountain decorated that way, I thought it looked really good. But I agree, weird having the effects and death metal blasting on the inside.

  12. I went that night too. I saw the 6:30 Jack Frost show. That was pretty cool, and I never see any shows. I haven't been in that theater for over a decade. My girlfriend wanted to know why they had such a huge area of the park that they never use - a good question. Skull Mountain is a bit odd with no theming on the inside but overall I think its a really creative way of keeping that ride open.

  13. There definitely was a lot of hype for Fright Fest this season that left me slightly underwhelmed. In my opinion, the past two years saw much more improvement than this year. However, I feel that season pass owners really do get a sweeter deal than if they were to try out other NJ haunts solely because of the variety the park has to offer.

I think PA laws must be different as they can and do touch you and this adds so much to the experience.

I would never want to see them even attempt that at FrightFest...it just wouldn't work with that crowd and actors would get hurt.

Ogolo, have you ever heard of an attraction called Bane Haunted House? I went on a trip to North Jersey and me and my girlfriend decided to give it a shot. It is dubbed as New Jersey's "scariest haunted house", but I always take that with a grain of salt. While it wasn't the scariest haunt I've experienced, it probably was the most intense. There's lots of touching, screaming, and just general unpredictable insanity. It was a blast and I highly recommend it. Me and her decided afterword that even given how great of a job they did, Fright Fest felt like a better deal. Bane Haunted House was roughly 20 minutes long and was exactly the same price as the terror trails for season pass holders. I can't speak for other parks' haunted events, but I have been to a few haunts in NJ. I feel like a lot of it also just depends on luck and timing. A good night at an average event or haunt can still leave a good experience.

  14. Thank you! Now I'm looking through the spotlight and refreshing my memory on the trivia. Back when I first read it I never thought I'd actually work the ride!

  15. I'm reading through the forums and it doesn't look like a lot of people have good things to say about it! That's fine though, the SkyWay is actually one of my favorites. Last season I worked at Ka, and that was relatively easy for me. I'm not extremely physically fit, but I was one of the more motivated people on the team, especially by the end of the season. But that's not saying much considering everything that changed with the addition of Zumanjaro. Anyway, its really cool to be given this opportunity and I hope it works out.
