GAcoaster
From WAVY.com Rough weather causes severe damage NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - On Wednesday, rough weather rolled through much of our viewing area causing power outages and severe damage. In Newport News, a marina was wrecked as strong winds caused much of the structure to collapse. At Busch Gardens in Williamsburg the fiberglass slide on the 'Log Flume' ride was damaged. Chopper 10 captured images of both sites. Their website is getting maintenance now, but there is supposed to be chopper footage coming. I would have to guess a tree was blown onto the trough. Their flume is set among big trees.
GAcoaster
Follow up from dailypress.com: Storm damaged ride at Busch Gardens JAMES CITY - Employees at Busch Gardens Europe are cleaning up this afternoon after wind and rain from an early morning storm pushed over trees, knocked over a fence and damaged a ride at the James City County theme park. Wind gusts caused a small- to medium-sized tree to fall on the park's log flume water ride and damaged the fiberglass on the trough that runs the ride, said Kevin Crossett, park spokesman. He said the damage could "easily be patched up." The weather also pushed over a fence and scattered tree limbs and branches throughout the park. James City County Emergency Management officials said no one was hurt in the early morning events, which they categorized as a bad storm and not a tornado. Emergency Management Director Kate Hale said county police and fire officials did not respond to the incident. Crossett said the clean-up of the park began immediately after conditions improved.
