Land of Oz themed area

Recommended Posts

Now many of us know that Warner Leroy originally enviosioned the park to have an elaborate Wizard of Oz Disney type dark ride in the park and it never happened. many of us wish that the park would build such a ride but Six fLags financial capabilities prohibit this, so taking que from another post on the forum, what if the park recieved a Wizard of Oz themed land?

The new land would encompass the area between the fountain and Grannys of what is now Fantasy forest(carousel, Houdini, teacups and Main st will be untouched) and make use of Oz related theming and flat rides instead of elaborate dark rides. The land would be like this-

upon entering the land, visitors would walk under a giant rainbow arch that says "The magical Land of Oz" in similiar fashion to the former Wonders of Life Arch in Disney World. the Worn, dated concrete would be replaced with faux bricks painted yellow as in yellow brick road. The Old COuntry hoops game would be removed and the "Spin Meister drink stand" wouold be rethemed to Dorothy's house, post tornado with the wicked Witches feet sticking out from under. The house would be sorrounded by a few small, munchin type buildings and the hat shop turned security headquarters would stay as it is, only painted to match the rest of "munchkinland". Coca Cola freestyle would remain the same and be considered part of Main Street while Jersey Shore would be rethemed to an Oz themed candy store. A new swing ride would be placed in fLying Waves old spot themed to the flying monkeys and painted in their uniform colors of navy blue, red, and white and atop the ride would be a fiberglass wicked witch. In Pirate Flights old spot would be a Zamperla Balloon race themed to the Wizard of Oz's balloon used at the end of the movie. Landscaping would mostly be the enchanted poppies. "Big wheel deals" would be rethemed to the tin Woodman's hut and serve as a giftshop while a green scrambler would be placed in Chaos's old space called 'Emrald City Dazzler' with a light show package while the Big wheel would also be repainted green and renamed 'The Oz Eye". The castle arcade would be also painted green and themed to an Emerald City Arcade while Mama Floras would retain its faux rock motiff and serve as a restaurant named 'Witches Lair" with recreated props from the movie. The skyway station would also be painted green to match the Emerald city Motiff while the former ride area of Evolution would be themed to a farm with fiberglass crows and a scarecrow. The aea between the exit from big wheel to what is now "Tornado Zone" would be landscaped with large trees to create the ominus forest in which the lion can be found. Grannys would remain exactly the same, just with a new name reflecting Lginda the good Witch, which would fit perfectly with its pink accents. gthe land would then enter into a Movietown/Old Country themed to DC universe. The loop muisc could offcourse be music from the movie.

It's an interesting thought being that the Oz stories are public domain at this point so no one owns the copyright but the problem is then not infringing on the copyrighted images owned by MGM/Time Warner or Universal (all of the Wicked musical imagery) so as to not have to pay royalties. Unfortunately to create something Oz-ish you really need to to the movie versions of things because that's what people know. Even the musical plays with the ideas of the movie being careful to never use too much.
