The Master
It's been on ABC 6 news that preliminary plans are being considered to demolish the Wachovia Spectrum to make way for either a hotel or a entertainment complex. The Spectrum was Philadelphia's first indoor arena that opened in 1967.
redsoxfan0810
I remember seeing that place when I went to a Sox-Phillies game, doesn't one of the flyers minor-league teams (I'm guessing the Phantoms) play there?
The Master
I think so, I mainly went there for The Ringling Bros Circus in the spring. The circus is usually at the Spectrum but it has also been next door at the newer Wachovia Center (used to be called Spectrum II). During the first year for the Spectrum the roof blew off and they had to rebuild the roof.
GAcoaster
It's amazing how disposable all these stadiums are. The Vet wasn't all that old, and they took it down. The Spectrum isn't all that old and they're taking it down. Shea Stadium is coming down soon, and it's not all that old. Nothing is permanent anymore. The Master
Just on ABC 6 news that they are planing to build a shopping complex (downtown Disney type thing) next to the Wachovia Center for sure, they have not decided to knock down the Spectrum for sure yet, but if they do decide to knock down the Spectrum it will be replaced with a hotel and condos. Who would want a condo next to a indoor arena? Edited January 23, 2008 by The Master
