GADV used to sell red and blue Icees many moons ago, the Icee company also makes Slurpees for 7-Elevens. So they are just bringing Icees back to GADV under the Slurpee name since CP Fair sells Icees.

Enough already with the outside product marketing! If people want slurpees they can go to 7-Eleven. People don't travel all the way to a theme park and fork out a fortune to get the same crap they can get around the corner from their house. They have to stop making the parks nothing more than shopping centers.

The idea of going to a theme park is to get away from all the everyday garbage and immerse yourself in another world. All these constant reminders of the outside world destroys the whole purpose. If people want Slurpees, Johnny Rockets, and Lowes they can get those a lot closer to home for a lot less money.

Six Flags is steering itself right back into bankruptcy by destroying the atmosephere and quality of the parks in an attempt to make a quick buck. As always it will work in the short term and then destroy them in the end. They just never learn.

While I agree in principal about what you're saying, sponsorship is a necessary evil. Even Disney did it from the beginning of Disneyland.

However, there's a BIG difference in having Lowes sponsor opening weekend, and Slurpees sold in the park than Johnny Rockets and other outside vendors. Lowes can sponsor (just like they do at the Busch Gardens) and Slurpees can be sold inside existing food outlets. The problem for me with things like Johnny Rockets and Cold Stone being introduced was taking what had been a themed restaurant and turning it into a generic brand name food outlet.

These sponsorships work for the brand and the park and always have. I remember in the 1980's the hot dogs sold at Mustard's Last Stand were Thorn Apple Valley brand (and were simply denoted on the menu boards). Because I liked them so much, we bought them at home. It will be the same thing with Slurpees. People like them and will be more willing to spend the extra money to buy Slurpee branded drinks, which is a win for the park as well as for 7-11 who then might get additional business from the park selling the refillable cups.

Starbucks coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort

Apr 23, 2012

Disney has today announced that Starbucks will be coming to both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World this year. What do you think? Let us know on our forum.

From the official Disney Parks Blog

Today, we’re excited to officially announce plans to bring your favorite Starbucks drinks and food items to all of our theme parks at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.

In June, the first of six planned Starbucks locations is scheduled to open at Disney California Adventure park. And more locations are planned at Disneyland park and Walt Disney World Resort (Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom).

The Starbucks locations inside our parks will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings. At Disney California Adventure park, Starbucks will be located in the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café on Buena Vista Street, a place that transports guests to 1920s Los Angeles, when Walt Disney arrived in California and a cup of coffee was the perfect way to jumpstart a busy day. The store’s location plays off the Spanish/Mexican architecture of the period, and baristas will wear 1920s-inspired attire.

The café will serve Starbucks items, including coffee and espresso beverages, Frappuccino® blended beverages, and signature breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Guests also will have their choice of Disney favorites, including signature sandwiches and other items, as well as delicious desserts and sweet treats.

It's not just Six Flags...

You'll notice they state that " the locations will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings". This is the difference between all the other parks and Six Flags. Even though you can find outside products at other parks, you are still immersed in a theme and an atmosphere you cannot experience at a local shopping center. Every day Six Flags parks look more and more like shopping centers and less like theme parks. People do not want to drive 100 miles and pay 100 dollars to go to a shopping center. You can have outside products and corporate sponsorship without destroying the atmosphere and theming of the park. Six Flags has never understood this concept.
