And when you do, you’ll travel at around 23 miles per hour in the new elevators. But if you want to see what the trip will be like right now, there’s a magnificent 47-second time-lapse video of Manhattan’s history as seen from that vantage point, including the tragedy that took place on 9/11. The images, showing a panorama of New York City beginning in the 1500s, will be projected on nine 75-inch high-definition monitors in each elevator car, The New York Times reports, placed behind window-like mullions that give you the impression you’re traveling to the 102nd floor in a glass elevator. For less than four seconds, you’ll also see “an imposingly realistic vision of 2 World Trade Center,” which will then disappear from the skyline. “The event is certainly a key part of history,” chairman and chief executive of Legends Hospitality David W. Checketts said, referring to the 9/11 attacks. “We did not think you could ignore it. Having it appear in the year it did and disappear in the year it did was the respectful way of addressing the fact that it was part of the landscape.” The company was chosen in 2013 to operate the observatory. jdc12192 Posted April 20, 2015 Report Share Posted April 20, 2015 Very cool concept. My only concern if i went would be motion sickness from the movement of the elevator plus the video movements. Mrpq Posted April 21, 2015 Report Share Posted April 21, 2015 Interesting. My brother worked on furnishing some of the floors in the building so he has some amazing photos from the roof. Imagine if GA added an Observation Tower/ Elevator in the park and doing the same thing showing off GA's time lapse and all the previous rides that aren't with us anymore.
