Las Vegas

Just returned from a nice few days in Vegas. First time there. Weather was in the high 60's for the most part. Thought that would be chilly but actually felt like mid 80's. Anyhow we stayed at Excalibur which wasn't my first choice but glad we did. Right in the middle of all the action. First day I had to get on the coaster at NY NY. Certainly looked more fun than it actually was. Nothing to write home about but still cool to do. Shortly after we found out that we can drink booze while touring the strip. Woohoo. Headed to CVS and stocked up on a few big cans of twisted tea. The perfect beverage while soaking in the sun. Finished day one walking to all the casinos up to Venetian. Highlights were Paris tower, Ceasers food, and drunken gondola ride.

Day two we caught the bus up to circus circus( with a bag of teas) good time there. Caught the circus show on 2nd fl which was better than expected and headed over to adventure dome. Hopped on the canyon? Coaster. Kind of cool. Didn't have high expectations for an indoor park but still happy we did. Next headed on to el loco. Got to say this on was my favorite. Packs a few nice surprises for such a small coaster. Gets my seal of approval. Not a whole lot more than that since it's mostly for younger people.

Headed over to stratosphere next. Wow was that a good time. Spent about an hour or so checking out the view. Now I'm not easily jittered about heights but this one had me a little rattled. Of course the tea helped with that. Then headed up to the rides. Started with insanity. Pretty freaking cool. Just a spinning ride but being a 1000' up made it spectacular. Next headed up to big shot. My personal favorite. Was already having panic attacks form the sheer height when the ride released a loud burst of air just before launch. Holy $#!+ did that scare me followed by a launch to the heavens. Yes, a bit dramatic but awesome. There was a third ride there but didn't make it on this day. Wanted to do the big jump but wait time was unacceptable. Headed out for dinner and caught some more sights. Highlight of the day is certainly the stratosphere.

Day three was pool day then headed to Fremont St. Pretty cool place. Signed up for the zip line which was pretty cool. One of our party stalled about 30' from the end and had to be brought in. Kind of funny. Only stayed for a few hours and caught the bus back to the hotel. Pretty long ride so we looked at some booklets being passed around noticed a helicopter tour of the strip for $90 per person. Oh yeah, we're in. Called and made the arraignments. Pretty sweet deal, they send a limo bus to Hotel for transport to airport and give you champaign before flight. Only lasted about 15 minutes but went from airport to Fremont and back. Far and away the coolest experience of the trip and certainly the highlight of the day.

Went home on day 4 but a truly amazing trip. Glad we did it. Not much gambling but the rides, shows, buffets, and overall sights of the strip make this place unique. Next I got to spend a few days at Grand Canyon.

Sounds like it was a fun trip with a lot of different attractions to see in addition to coasters. I have always heard that the coaster at NYNY is really painful, supposedly worse than Viper was.

It definitely had to be worse than Viper (SFGAD) before Premier Rides re did the trains. I still think it is bad.

Desperado at Buffalo Bill's doesn't look too bad, despite being an Arrow hyper very similar to the Pepsi Max Big One. Should be worth trying at least once as it is the biggest roller coaster in Las Vegas.

NY NY was painful but heard it used to be even worse. People we met said the best time to do it was at night. Wish we had the time. Looked into buffalo bills but that was pretty far away from the strip. Almost an hour away. Kind of a long trip for that.

If it got soft vest restraints like I-305, It might be a little better, But it runs like an old school Arrow (With gaps in the wheels)

Funny Vegas Story:

I rode that teeter-totter ride at Stratosphere in the front row with a dude (I didn't know) and when I raised my hands, He put his head in my armpit.
