Hershey Park Friday Aug 25th

So as part of my bachelor party get away this past weekend we spent Friday at Hershey Park. Every time I get back to the park I am reminded as to why its one of my favorite parks to visit. We got to the park at just about 10am, park opening, and the lot was pretty empty. The whole day wasn't too crowded with the longest line being Laugh Trax at an hour followed by Comet at just about 45 mins. everything else was walk on to 15 min waits.

Sky Rush- Started our day with a back row ride and it delivered. We where all still a little tired from the drive to PA the night before but after that we where wide awake and ready to go. Great ride as always. we also hit it as the last ride before we left for the night. We scored a front row ride and then got back in line for a back row. The front row is fun but if yiou want to feel like you are going to fall out of the ride you sit in the back lol

Comet- Great woodie, smooth lots of air time

Super Dooper Looper- My buddys said it was boring, which I can understand but I love how smooth the ride is.

Great Bear- Still one of the most interesting laied out inverts I have riden and the way they set up some of the supports really interest me. Silk smooth and I enjoy that its not super foreceful.

Wild Cat- Still a rough ride during the summer months but I always find myself riding it every trip.

Lightning Racers- One of my fav coasters at the park and still wish GA would get a similar coaster/s

Wild Mouse- not much to say, fun ride to kill some time when it has a short line.

Laugh Trax- I like this ride but either they found a way to cut down on the cars spinning or I lately seem to get in a car that the weight is so even spread out that it doesn't spin as much as the first few time I rode it when it first opened. Still fun regardless and the first drop will riding backwards is a blast.

Fahrenheit- I like this ride but it has got a WICKED rattle, most noticeable while going through the cobra roll.

Storm Runner- walked on line and never waited on a line as short as it was that day. $pm in the afternoon and it was a 3 train wait. Love it, great air time

Tipple drop tower- We only rode the Hershey Tower (tallest of the 3) Really like how you get both shot up and then brought to the top and dropped. The ride seems super high with its spot located up on the hill. I also sat in the seat which was facing the middle tower which gave me a trip out when we went up and went past the top of it. you don't expect to be shot past the top of a ride that's so close so ti messes with your head. At least it did for me lol.

All and all another great trip and I will be back in Nov for Candy Lane during Thanksgiving weekend, this time as a newly wed :)

The biggest problem about Skyrush in the front row is that the line for it is always to the bottom of the stairs and it barely moves which is why I prefer the back. I also never understand why Comet always seem to have an hour or more wait while at the same time Skyrush and Great Bear can have a half hour wait and SooperDooperLooper plus the other three wooden coasters having walk ons. I'm guessing it has to do with the location and operations of the rides.

The line for the front of skyrush was only about half way up the steps so it was about a 20 mins wait.

I also noticed the seats in the center vs the outside seem to be smaller. I sat in the center on the front and barely got the belt to clip in with the harness all the way down and belt fully extended. I find the harness on sky rush to be VERY uncomfortable and the fact it tightens down so much as you go through the ride really doesn't help.

Comet, I find the same thing odd. Like you said maybe because of the location and the fact it is the smoothest woodie in the park. Wild Cat is rough, no hiding it.

I've got to get back to Hershey this winter - it's been a few years. In my area, I am very fortunate that I have several amusement and water parks within a two-hour radius:

Great Adventure

Morey's Pier - Wildwood

Casino Pier - Seaside

Steel Pier - AC

Dorney Park

Hershey Park

Sesame Place

Clementon Park

Am I missing any others? Knoebels is further away at least 3 hour drive. I guess some of the Pocono ski area water parks are also within 2 hours.

Keep in mind not all the rides at Hershey are open for the winter. Don't go expecting a fully open or empty park. if you do you will more than likely end up disappointed. If you go expecting just to pay a cheap ticket price, enjoy the atmosphere, walk around and enjoy SOME rides than you will love it

Six Flags America is only a 2 hour and 15 minute drive from where I'm from but it might be a half hour longer from your area. There's Playland's Castaway Cove in Ocean City however the Gale Force coaster costs $14 to ride which is way overpriced. Jenkinson's Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach is a smaller boardwalk park with nothing very major, kind of like Gillian's Wonderland Pier also in Ocean City. Luna Park, the park in Coney Island is also within 2 hours of the Mt. Holly area but the park is in a bad area of the city. My mom's car was almost broken in there when she lived in NYC and crime there is pretty high.

When Christmas Candylane first opened in the winter of 1983, there were very few rides running and everything was pay as you go.

I liked that system before having a season pass. Pay per ride or a wristband for what was a lot less than a regular admission ticket cost. The last year they offered that for both Hersheypark in the Dark and Christmas Candylane was 2005 and then they switched over to the regular pay one price admission. I'm looking forward to visiting the park in November and December this year more now that the Triple Towers will be open even though I'd still rather go to Holiday in the Park.

I can't figure out Wildcat, some visits it isn't that bad and other times it is really rough. I usually will ride the coaster if it is less than a 15 minute wait and hope it isn't running too bad.

Admission to Candy lane is only $18, at least that's what it was the past 2 years. Wild Cat I find rough during the summer but during Candy lane it rides just like Lightening Racers.

I am actually surprised the Triple Tower is open in the winter.

I understand why the Intamins don't run during Christmas Candylane but why doesn't Great Bear run during the event if it's a B&M? Great Adventure can run all five of theirs even though they close Bizarro.

I can't find the link to it online but supposedly B&M coasters aren't supposed to run if it is less than 40 degrees. I remember hearing some new B&M coasters like X Flight at Great America have something built in where the ride won't run if the temperature is under 40.

I feel like I was at Holiday in the park and it was deff colder than 40 out and all the coasters where open.

My deal witht he triple drop at Hershey is its entire system is run off air and compressed air accumulates water, water freezes. But I guess they have the "air line anti freeze" type liquid in the lines that prevents this. I assume they use the same stuff in the air brake systems on the coasters.

I know I was talking to a ride op at Hershey the other year and they said they will shut down the coasters once the temp his below 32

One more thing I forgot to mention about Hershey Park. The security is sooo lax. When you walk in the only thing you do is check your bag, if you have one. If you don't you just walk right in. I found it nice but at the same time you head car run wild with thoughts of what can happen with how crazy people are in the world these days

That made me a bit nervous the first time I went as they get similar attendance levels to Great Adventure but at least the clientele that usually visits isn't the kind that acts trash.

Hershey Park? I am not surprised by that at all. Its not just a park, its a destination. You can spend a few days vacation there. You have the park, the factory, camping, cabins, the Hershey Hotel (from what I hear is not cheap). You also have Lancaster and Stasburg, which are other popular towns within 30 min drive from the park. What does Great Adventure have in comparison. I also think Hershey is a way nicer park as well
