29yrswithaGApass
Soure: LA Times Six Flags Magic Mountain to reclaim coaster crown in 2010 This entry was posted on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 5:36 pm by Brady MacDonald The back-and-forth war of one-upmanship between Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Point resumes next summer when the amusement park behemoths battle again for the coveted title of “roller coaster capital of the world.” Six Flags President and Chief Executive Mark Shapiro said this week that Magic Mountain would add a “family attraction” for 2010, with an official announcement expected in November. But regular Funland readers already know that the “family attraction” will be a new roller coaster. Magic Mountain’s 17th roller coaster would move the Valencia amusement park into a statistical tie with Ohio’s Cedar Point for coaster supremacy, according to Roller Coaster Database. Magic Mountain, which snatched the crown from Cedar Point around the turn of the millennium during a building binge, relinquished the title back to the Ohio park in 2008 after removing two aging coasters. Cedar Point, which hasn’t added a new coaster since 2007, opted for the $10.5-million Shoot the Rapids water flume ride for 2010. In 2009, Magic Mountain installed the $11-million Terminator wooden coaster, its first new coaster since 2006.
mrceagle
SFMM never had a lead. Though I personally rather see quality over quantity.
The Master
I remember that one of SFMM's coasters they removed had been SBNO for years but they kept it to keep their coaster count high. Both MM and GADV suffer from not having many family flat rides.
warnerleroy
This isn't so hard, they could add two kiddie coasters that would still add to thier count
29yrswithaGApass
Source: ultimaterollercoaster.com Magic Mountain to Tie Cedar Point in 2010 For Roller Coaster Record Valencia, CA – Six Flags Magic Mountain will open their 17th roller coaster in 2010, tying Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio for the most roller coasters in a single park. While park officials didn't reveal the name or theme, the roller coaster won't exactly be new. Six Flags is recycling this family coaster from their closed theme park in New Orleans, where it operated under the name Road Runner Express. This roller coaster last operated in August 2005 and closed along with Six Flags New Orleans after the park suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Katrina. After standing unused for several years, the roller coaster was recently moved to Plainview, Texas where it's being refurbished before moving to its new home at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Known as a "Roller Skater", this 28-foot tall junior coaster has a single eight-car train that rides on 679-feet of steel track. The roller coaster is a product of Netherlands based Vekoma. This family coaster will appeal to families, since both an adult and child can sit in the car, allowing parents to ride alongside their children. Six Flags plans to position the coaster in the southwest corner of the park, beside Déjà Vu and Johnny Rockets concession. The park will remove an old theatre building to make room for the new attraction. For Southern California thrill-seekers this family coaster may seem familiar. Two other Roller Skater models can be found at Castle Park in the Inland Empire and another, Gadget's Go Coaster, is at Disneyland Park in Orange County. Six Flags Magic Mountain is expected to reveal the name and theme by the end of the month. There have been some Internet rumors circulating that claim the theme may be based on Six Flags mascot, Mr. Six. For more information, visit sixflags.com. Here is a photo from RCDB of the ride at SFNO.
29yrswithaGApass
Source: Los Angeles Times Six Flags Magic Mountain to add Mr. Six’s coaster for 2010 January 27, 2010 Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia will add a kiddie coaster in summer 2010 called Mr. Six’s DanceCoaster, themed to the frenetically dancing senior citizen who serves as a spokes-character for the amusement park chain. Magic Mountain’s 17th coaster moves the California amusement park into a tie with Ohio’s Cedar Point for the coveted title of “roller coaster capital of the world,” according to Roller Coaster Database. Scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend, the 679-foot-long steel coaster will be located in the northwest corner of Magic Mountain between the looping Déjà Vu coaster and the Johnny Rockets Shakes and Fries food stand. At 28 feet tall and with a top speed of 21 mph, the family coaster certainly won’t set any records or wow hard-core enthusiasts. The black, white and red coaster trains will be themed to look like a pair of dancing shoes. Magic Mountain for this addition will recycle the Vekoma junior coaster, which was known as Road Runner Express at the now-shuttered Six Flags New Orleans before being relocated to Magic Mountain, according to Ultimate Roller Coaster. The layout of Magic Mountain’s Mr. Six coaster will be identical to Disneyland’s Gadget Go-Coaster, which opened in Toontown in 1993, according to Roller Coaster Database. This will be the second coaster themed to the Mr. Six character, according to Screamscape. Six Flags New England opened Mr. Six’s Pandemonium in 2005 before dropping “Mr. Six” from the name of the spinning coaster two years later. acq10uaz
Hahahah they used the picture that was posted above for concept art. They even kept the people in it, except in a poorly photoshopping done. Anyways this will be interesting. I am glad SF is starting to use original theme's. Finbow
I just noticed that. Pretty funny. The photoshop works almost makes the whole new image look rendered though, but it's clearly an edited version of the one from SFNO.

GAcoaster
The Vekoma Roller Skaters aren't bad. In fact Vekoma's kiddie coasters that I've been on have all been half decent.
Mike13
According to the SFMM site,it's heigh restriction is 42'.I just can't see that being right since it had a 36 or 38' I forget which restriction at SFNO. This wouldn't exactly be to family and Children friendly if it is 42 inches! Hopefully it's just a typo.
GAcoaster
Quite often the website is incorrect with things like that before the ride is constructed.

I can't argue that the theming is original, if only they would start using "cohesive" themes. It's between Johnny Rockets and Deja Vu and it's called Mr. Six's Dance Coaster? What is the park's theming, acid trip?
mrceagle
Like the theme and the Roller Skater is a fun Family coaster. I did noticed they they used the same image. terrible matted images of people with their hands up.
29yrswithaGApass
Source: The California Source Magic Mountain Not Opening Coaster (05/29/2010) – Valencia, California – Six Flags Magic Mountain announced today that they will not be opening Mr. Six’s Dance Coaster, a children’s coaster, this summer as previously announced. The coaster, which is a transplant from the now-shuttered Six Flags New Orleans, would have tied Magic Mountain with Cedar Point for the most coasters in the world, at 17. While the land is cleared and the tracks for Mr. Six’s Dance Coaster is on site, construction will not begin this year; Six Flags did not provide a reason. Mr. Six’s Dance Coaster, which will be themed to the elderly Six Flags spokesman, will open sometime in 2011. Terminator Salvation: The Ride, a wooden coaster based on the movie of the same name, will remain the park’s newest coaster through 2011.
