29yrswithaGApass
Our wish for Day 19 - Add a helium balloon attraction.
GAcoaster
This would be a great addition. Of course it would be an upcharge, but it would be fun and could probably get a sponsor who could help defray costs. The Philadelphia Zoo has one, and so does Disneyland Paris. gafreak
ya the one at the zoo in philly always has a line and goes up pretty damn high too!
GAcoaster
Exactly...and on a clear day you could see NYC and Philly from up there. That would be a pretty cool attraction
29yrswithaGApass
You can check out 36 additional photos of the ballooning experience by clicking HERE. The ride lasts about 9 minutes and goes up to 400 feet, taller than most observation decks. It is A LOT of fun with an incredible view! It would be really cool if Great Adventure added one of these with the balloon decorated with the park's 1974 GA balloon design! "The Master" once had a shot of the Philly Zoo one. If you still have it, can you share it?
ThemeParkRider
I've never been in a hot ait ballon before but if its over GA I might as well give it a try.
nbadude44
If this would ever happen, I'd love to see the design of the original 1974 balloon and not just the regular Great Adventure logo with some DC and Looney Tunes characters added. ThemeParkRider
That'd be nice. But, maybe than they could do one with the regular logo and a second with what you mentioned before. thechiller15
This would be a great upcharge attraction addition to have over the lake.
ThemeParkRider
Over the lake would be even better. But, what were the original locations of the first hot air balloons in comparision to what's there now?
29yrswithaGApass
In 1974 the hot air balloon was located where the Boardwalk games are now and from 1975 to 1977 it was located on the site of the Great American Road Race go karts. GAcoaster
I agree, it would be great to locate one on the lake like the one at Disney. Or maybe over where the old Paddle Boat dock is located.
CablesEric
How high did the original balloon ride go? Do you think that Mcguire and Lakehurst being so close would be an issue?
29yrswithaGApass
The original balloon went up several hundred feet when tethered and occasionally made some free floating flights at much higher heights. The helium balloon attraction goes up to a maximum of 400 feet which is lower than the peak of Kingda Ka, so I don't think it would be an issue. ThemeParkRider
Speaking of Kingda Ka, check out this video I made! (Yes I know its off-topic). I hope you enjoy.

29yrswithaGApass
^ Thanks! It looks like that one is operated in a wooded area similar to Great Adventure. I am convinced this would be a big hit at our park!
The Master
It's landing pad is a large plaza that is just outside the Philly zoo.
