The Master
I was wondering if anybody knows if GAdv has ever opened with significant snow on the ground, and/or closed early or not open because of snow? With all the years I have been going to GAdv I don't recall either ever happening, but I have seen the park closed because of heavy rain, lightning, etc.
29yrswithaGApass
The closest the park came to delaying a season opener was in 1982 when we had a snow storm a couple of days before the start of the season. Luckily it warmed (and rained) and the snow cleared out before the gates opened. I don't know of a day when the park closed because of snow, but on April 5th 2004 the park only opened for about an hour because of bitter cold temperatures and icing conditions! CablesEric
The park did close early for snow at least once, I was working at Dare Devil Dive at the time. It was April of 1999 (I believe), the park opened at 10am while it was snowing. The snow accumulated to about 3-4" before they decided to close the park at about 11am. GAcoaster
Every couple of years there's that one last snowfall of the season (usually the first week of April) and the park is closed for a day but the snow always melts off the next day and everythign is back to normal. Yesterday SFOT was closed for snow, but was scheduled to be open today and Monday after their freak snowstorm.
The Master
Seems like the whole country is having a harsher than normal winter, hopefully the weather will improve enough by the end of March so there won't be any problems. 29yrswithaGApass
^ True, 49 out of 50 states had snow on the ground this weekend! Only Hawaii escaped the white stuff this winter.
Chiller
Remember they canceled the Hope for the Holidays last November. Wasn't there freezing rain?
The Master
I think it was just normal rain but it was pretty cold and wet day. Has GAdv ever had to postpone a season grand opening due to bad weather?
GAcoaster
I don't remember any postponed openings. Usually they know there are people who are realy anxious to be there opening day, and after a couple of hours when they all get cold and miserable, they end up closing early.
