GAcoaster
One of the biggest things to happen at the park in the 80's was when the Monkees came to the park to film a video. In the 80's MTV began re-running episodes of The Monkees TV show from the 1960's, and the show became a HUGE hit, so the Monkees decided to capitalize on it and recorded a new album and toured the country. Great Adventure was one of the first stops on the tour, and the crowds were HUGE, and apparently the band really enjoyed being at the park, so they scheduled a second concert towards the end of the summer with the idea that they were going to make a video for their new single "That was Then, This is Now" while they were there, so they brought a film crew who filmed the actual concert as well a lots of crowd shots inside the arena, and around the backstage areas with the band and their families. The song and video only feature Mickey & Peter (although Davey was also on the tour, he did not appear in the video). There is a "modified" version of the video on Youtube, which features clips from the original sitcom in place of the original generic clips of the 1960's:

Up_Up_and_Away
I have the Monkees 20th anniversary album from 1986 (yes, vinyl album) featuring the then-new hit, That was Then, This is Now. I loved the Monkees...
29yrswithaGApass
^^ At least you didn't say 8-Track!!!! The Monkees first concert was on June 6, 1986 when they were featured with several other acts. I remember the Monkees' concerts being so popular that all employees had to park in the employee softball field (now the site of employee housing) because park guests use to fill up the main parking lot as well as the employee parking lot. Keep in mind that in 1986 the parking lot did not have Superman, Scream Machine, and Kingda Ka taking up parking spaces. The crowds were similar to this photo of the Great Arena. Chiller
Sad to see Davy Jones passes away today. I have seen and met him a couple of times and he seemed like a very nice guy and he puts on a really good show. He was my favorite Monkee.
