Day 11- Create Discreet Smoking Areas

Our wish for day #11:

 

 

 

While for the most part the park does a good job keeping the smokers only smoking areas, if those smoking areas are just benches along a pathway it does little to separate the guests from the smoke.

 

Other parks (including other Six Flags parks) do a much better job with this, many creating little screened areas off the pathways.

 

I've been noticing more and more that with fewer people smoking overall, and fewer places where people can smoke, the more sensitive I've become to it. Having a little more separation between the smoking areas and the pathways would go a long way to help things.

You used to be able to tell where the smoking area was, it was wherever they removed a ride. Spin Meister, Chaos, Freefalls line, ect.

My daughter and I always wondered how the blue painted lines were supposed to keep the smoke away from everyone else on the walking paths.

Some of the areas are really in bad spots, specifically the smoking area right near the entrance to Rolling Thunder since it's hard to avoid the smoke.

Six Flags New England does it right. They have large planters with benches on the "inside" smokers area:

That looks a lot nicer, you can barely notice what it is unless you see the sign.

Exactly! And the flowers do more to obscure it.

 

It's really clever since they're made so a forklift truck can move them around. That way the smoking areas can be relocated if necessary (for seasonal shows/decorations, etc).

Personally, I think the only place you should be allowed to smoke is in the far back of the theme park parking lot.
