Do you want to make a difference this spring break? Are you passionate about helping out with the Hurricane Sandy relief effort? MTV is partnering with United Way and mtvU to host "Spring Fix," an alternative spring break, in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. Beginning January 14th, college students can apply to be one of the 50 young people MTV will bring to the New York/New Jersey area to help rebuild communities devastated by the storm. "Spring Fix," will kick-off on Sunday, March 17 and culminate on Saturday, March 23 with a special free concert at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. MTV cameras will be on the ground capturing all the "Spring Fix" activities, and the network expects celebrities, politicians and more to stop in and take part. College students interested in participating in "Spring Fix" can submit applications online from January 14th to January 28, 2013 at United Way. Travel and accommodations will be covered for the 50 students selected. If you aren't one of the 50 selected but still want to get involved, you will be able to find information about additional service opportunities for Hurricane Sandy relief right here in the weeks to come. To thank the 50 students for their service, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey will host a free "Spring Fix" concert on Saturday, March 23, 2013, the season opening of the park. Great Adventure attendees will also be able to attend the concert, and a portion of the proceeds from that day will be donated to United Way. Additional details on the "Spring Fix" concert and performers are coming soon so keep checking back here for new information. It's more than Spring Break, it's SPRING FIX. Like with all these disasters that require relief the need for attention and funds is much longer than the public's attention span. How many months later they are still serving meals in shelters to people who lost everything and the rebuilding efforts are just beginning for many. I'm not even sure if I was going to go on opening day this year after last year where my worst visit of the year was opening day because of the crowds and rides breaking down but now I expect it to be way more crowded than normal so I'm probably going to try to go on Sunday instead. That is the point I was trying to make. Sadly they are delaying it to improve PR. Sadly it probably will make the park more crowded on opening day but since it is going to help people (even only a little) I won't complain about that.
