GAcoaster
This is something that happens every few years for boardwalks. Between shoddy construction and everything being built of wood they tend to catch fire and the fire spreads quickly. There's also the possibility that it wasn't an accident (especially after a season that was less than stellar). It's still sad to see it happen, but I remember the same section of boardwalk beign destroyed by fire 20-30 years ago (it destroyed the awesome flume they used to have). I always heard rumors the fire wasn't an accident.
cygnus12
^ Are you sure it was that section that had the fire? I remember riding the flume on Funtown in 1996 or so. It was erected in 1977 and removed in 1999. Edit: Yep, 1995. 3 alarm fire burnt down 2 buildings near Funtown. ericthewanderer
It's a terrible shame..that area around Funtown Pier had some cool places burn up:the Saw Mill bar,the carousel with that arcade with all the old 1980's games....I hope Seaside will still rebuild after this extra setback.
