Mars Snackfood U.S. Named the 'Official Candy' of Six Flags Theme Parks

PR Newswire

September 03, 2008: 09:00 AM EST

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Mars Snackfood US and Six Flags, Inc. (NYSE: SIX) announced today a major expansion of an existing sponsorship agreement, naming the manufacturer’s products as the "Official Candy" and the "Official Ice Cream Premium Novelty" for all Six Flags Theme Parks in the country. During the five-year agreement, Mars Snackfood US will have exclusive marketing rights for all pre-packaged candy (both sugar and chocolate-based) for in-market promotion and in-park advertising on the Six Flags Media Networks.

"Now families can enjoy their favorite Mars brands while creating special memories at these fantastic theme parks," said Todd Lachman, president of Mars Snackfood US. "We are thrilled to greatly expand our partnership with such a strong organization like Six Flags."

"This expansion of our relationship with a valued partner and trusted brand like Mars speaks volumes," said Mark Shapiro, Six Flags President and CEO. "Our parks are delivering affordable, family-friendly entertainment that’s resonating with consumers in today’s challenging economy, and companies like Mars clearly recognize the value and unique experiential marketing vehicles that are available inside our gates."

As part of the agreement, Mars Snackfood US will be named the presenting sponsor for Six Flags’ branded Halloween event - SNICKERS® Fright Fest - and for Six Flags Festival Latino events at participating parks. Each event will include sampling opportunities and full promotional support including a nationwide SNICKERS® Fright Fest sweepstakes.

Maintaining its STARBURST® title sponsorship of all Tornado Water Rides and Splash Zones, Mars Snackfood US also will sponsor two Thrill Rides in each theme park. In addition, the STARBURST® Concert Series, which includes VIP STARBURST® Seating and a national promotion where the winners have meet-and- greets with artists, will continue at multiple parks.

The sponsorship will provide Mars Snackfood US with tremendous brand exposure, including signage in the parks, retail promotion and co-marketing benefits, in-park sales of confections and ice cream products and the opportunity to sell licensed M&M’S® Branded merchandise in three Six Flags Theme Parks.

Interesting that they are sponsoring Tornado slides in all Six Flags parks, and that our HH is one of the only waterparks not to have a Tornado yet. With sponsorship, I could see this being the deciding factor on getting a tornado for next season (if the decision wasn't already made).
