GAcoaster
Press release: 'Save A Cockroach... Eat Another Creepy Crawler' Six Flags Kicks off SNICKERS® Fright Fest with a New Twist Halloween is fright around the corner and Six Flags is serving up "Thrills by Day, Chills by Night" for its 2008 annual Halloween event -- Fright Fest presented by SNICKERS®, taking place weekends October 3 through November 2. For the past two years, Six Flags parks have offered guests the opportunity to win front-of-the-line access, season passes and other great prizes by eating a 3-inch long, hissing Madagascar cockroach. This year, Six Flags has launched a new campaign and is inviting Fright Fest fans from around the country to join in and Save A Cockroach...Eat Another Creepy Crawler! "The cockroach promotion has been extremely popular with many of our guests that revel in both the Halloween spirit and the haunted fun of Fright Fest," said Dan Weinberg, Six Flags Vice President of Entertainment. "While we're evolving the promotion and no longer going to include the cockroaches themselves, we didn't think it was fair to neglect their friends." Guests who dare can spin the Wheel of Fright for a chance to test their limits by ingesting other creepy crawlers like superworms, larvae, caterpillars, cicadas, night crawlers, crickets and grasshoppers. Those who rise to the challenge will once again win front-of-the-line access on some of Six Flags' most popular rides as well as gas gift cards and season passes. For guests who may not have an appetite for crunchy creepy crawlers, Six Flags has a variety of activities to ensure Halloween fun for all ages. Younger guests will enjoy a host of Halloween-themed attractions, events and kid-friendly activities like costume contests, scare-free Trick-or-Treat trails, face painting and fun shows created just for them. When the sun goes down, Six Flags turns up the fear factor as fog fills the air and parks are overflowing with a full slate of new shows, haunted houses, roaming zombies and the scariest clowns on the planet. Exclusively for Fright Fest, guests can experience some of their favorite coasters like never before...in the dark, backwards! New for 2008, Six Flags and SNICKERS® are bringing the thrills and chills of Fright Fest to someone's home with the "Ultimate Trick-or-Treat Destination Sweepstakes." Six Flags will bring Fright Fest to one grand prize winner's home this Halloween night, with the decorations, scares and SNICKERS from Mars Snackfood US. The grand prize includes: Fright Fest branded-decorations for the outside of the winner's home, up to four of Fright Fests' authentic ghouls, monsters or goblins, plus 250 Fright Fest Admission tickets for Halloween and candy for trick-or-treaters on Halloween, courtesy of Mars Snackfood US. JetsDevs4Lyf
The contest sounds pretty cool. If you are someone who really enjoys doing up your house for Halloween, then I am sure it would turn out well with some actors and such thrown in the mix. I like the idea. Unfortunately I haven't heard anything about the coffin of fear corresponding to the Wheel or Fright which dissapoints since laying in a bed of insects is more my speed than eating them lol
29yrswithaGApass
Isn't this like insect discrimination? It's o.k. to eat a worm but not a a cockroach? To be honest, I wouldn't eat any of them nor would I join a "save a bug" campaign but it just seems funny!
Railer
One thing that it said was, ride some of your favorite Coaster's Backward's! Does any one think Rolling Thunder will ride backward's once more? I hope it does, never made it on when it rode that way before.
JetsDevs4Lyf
Interesting, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on it. Since it's chain wide, there may be coasters in other places that can be run backwards. RT would be fun though! JetsDevs4Lyf
I just happened to notice that the wheel has been moved to the area by the Fantasy Fling according to the site this year instead of by the fountain as it was last year. 29yrswithaGApass
Having so much stuff last year in the main entrance/fountain area made it almost impossible to navigate through there. I wonder if they will scrap the cemetary around the fountain this year to allow for more room.
JetsDevs4Lyf
I think the cemetery will still be there. It doesn't draw the same crowds an actual show does at that spot, and without it the fountain wouldn't look the part for the season.
Railer
Although I love the look of the Cemetary around the Fountain, it does make it tight in there with the crowds. I'm glad they put the Hearse's in the Lakefront now also. As long as it's Blood Red Water in the fountain, I'm happy.
JetsDevs4Lyf
It's too bad it would be so complicated to do so since the fountain has the large water base., because I think it would look nifty if for the awakening, the ghoulmaster were able to stop the fountain during his part and rbing it back to life with the blood red water
