29yrswithaGApass
Newly discovered and without a doubt THE BEST photo of the Joust-A-Bout taken shortly after installation in the spring of 1982. Sweet!
29yrswithaGApass
Anyone remember these cool light up features from the sides of the Joust A Bout boats?
laurenalexis
Was this ride really a victim to frequent lightning strikes? I would think that the taller Parachuter's Perch would be the lightning rod...
Yoshi
I remember seeing Joust-A-Bout running when I went to the park in the late 80's and early to mid 90's. I never got the chance to ride it and regret it since it looks like it was a fun ride
29yrswithaGApass
It was a really cool ride and unlike the Buccaneer you didn't have to sit in the back rows to get the full effect of the boat's motion. All seats provided the same sensation.
laurenalexis
It looks like it was an awesome ride! It's one of the rides I definitely wish was still around so I could see what it was like to ride it.
Password121
^ It definitely looks like an awesome ride! I wonder why they aren't still in production? My guess is the manufacturer went out of business, possible capacity/efficiency.
29yrswithaGApass
The Joust a Bout was unique to the United States and I believe one of only two ever produced.
RC98
Wow that's the kind of unique family attraction that the park could use more of today. Isn't it still in the boneyard? Even though there's pretty much no way it would come back I'm just wondering.
29yrswithaGApass
Yes, the Joust is still in the boneyard but beyond the point of making a return. The photos of the light up panels above were taken in the yard.
29yrswithaGApass
This video is dated 2010 so maybe one still exists! Cool ride!
laurenalexis
I think it may still be at that park, I did a little looking around and found the website for the park it's at. It doesn't give you a list of rides, but there is a little picture slideshow type thing at the bottom, and the ride appears in the corner of two of the pictures. The website doesn't say when it was last updated though, and I can't read anything on it since it's French. http://www.azurpark.com/ Hopefully the pictures are recent! 29yrswithaGApass
I have started a restoration project to see if I can bring the old Joust a Bout control panel back to its former glory. I may even try to get the lights to work and make the horn functional again.
RC98
^ Sounds great! Good luck on restoring it!
Ogolo
Too bad you can't restore the entire ride...Such a fun ride.
GAcoaster
I found another video of one in action (recently it appears): https://www.facebook.com/kermismovies/videos/992115680840501/?theater
Ogolo
Off ride videos just don't make you appreciate this ride..It was truly a "Flying carpet". This is one ride I wish would rise from the dead. 1001 Nacht @ Knoebels is probably the closest we will ever get.
Matt Kaiser
Isn't Buzzsaw at SFNE relatively the same experience, albeit smaller? https://youtu.be/9U9ifjAvL4M?t=13s
29yrswithaGApass
Actually, nothing like it. Joust had smooth continuous arches that gradually built up speed. Buzzsaw is more of a jerky back and forth deal.
29yrswithaGApass
I uploaded a whole new batch of pictures of Great Adventure's Joust A Bout ride. These should bring back some memories of this unique attraction. Some samples are below but click the banner below to view even more. Yoshi
The emblems on the side of the ride cars look detailed and I like how there are a few different designs.
29yrswithaGApass
And they all use to light up! Joust was a really cool ride to watch at night with all the lights on the arms and the cross supports. It was like watching a pattern being made with a Spirograph. (For our younger readers without a clue as to what a Spirograph is, google it!)
Ogolo
Just saw Buzz Saw at SFNE yesterday and it brought back memories of Joust A Bout. Sadly the ride experience is no Joust A Bout. Somebody has to have an old video of the GAdv Joust A Bout running.
