29yrswithaGApass
Our second wish is for the park to install or repair the colorful signs used to mark the various sections of the Safari. Over the years those have become faded and worn.
29yrswithaGApass
Below are two additional photos of "Then & Now" Safari signs. Great Adventure has made some incredible signs over the years!
Yoshi
I didn't realize how nice the signs used to look, they really look bad in comparison to how they were originally. The big bear sign really is noticeable with both pictures next to each other. Edited December 18, 2008 by Yoshi
29yrswithaGApass
Could it be that this wish is coming true too? While traveling back behind the Safari on Reed Road today I noticed that the sign for the African Plains has been removed! Hopefully they are doing some off season rehab on the Safari signs! JetsDevs4Lyf
If those signs get replaced Harry I think we need to hold you guys personally responsible for making a 365 day calendar of wishes Edited February 2, 2009 by JetsDevs4Lyf
Chiller
Thats amazing how much they have faded. Some of them blend in now.
pashacar
I know that this isn't entirely related, but the Hurricane Harbor theme elements desperately need refurbishment too. Everything from the tiny signs through the lazy river to the wave pool facade (and especially the large theme elements like the Bada Bing Sundial and Music Machine) is faded or otherwise deteriorating. GAcoaster
It looks like we're getting at least one more of our wishes...the Safari section signs are being refurbished right now. We got to see them painting one today in the sign shop. In fact it was even the sign we chose to put in the calendar! There's also going to be a Safari Tour bus stop added inside the park again, but this time in a much better location. They're adding it with really good signage this time to the gate right next to Kingda Ka where the smoking area was located.
JetsDevs4Lyf
That really seems like a logical location for the sfari to pick guests up. It would be wise of the park to also notate that entrance and the safari as a whole at the end of some of the shows containing animals like the Tiger and Dolphin shows. seems like the proper platform to mention a segment of the property some poeple might blow right passed in the morning or afternoon as they are arriving to the park. Besides after watching some lovely tigers display their abilities for you, a safari trip might seem like a natural fit.
29yrswithaGApass
We got to see them painting one today in the sign shop. In fact it was even the sign we chose to put in the calendar! It was pretty funny that they were painting that exact same sign we used. They did say that they had 8 others that they were also planning on redoing! Those signs are huge when you see them upclose in a work area. The Great Adventure sign shop workers are incredible and I am always amazed at their works of art. As some people may tell you, I have "a thing" for signs! GAcoaster
That was one of the best surprises yesterday, walking in and seeing them painting that sign. See, you don't have to be in a Disney park to have your wishes come true!
warnerleroy
Does that mean we may get a new lion sign this season?
29yrswithaGApass
with several more being worked on!
29yrswithaGApass
Only three more signs to redo. Here are photos of the remaining signs back in 1993 (American Plains and Australia) and 2003 (Baboon Village).
JetsDevs4Lyf
From what I recall on Saturday, any signs that had not yet been freshened up were not in place. I do remember seeing the posts with nothing on them in a few locations so it was probably those three you mentioned Harry. The signs really are very vibrant and eye catching now though, and I can say that while in years passed I went right past most of them, they really do draw your attention this season to where the animals you are going to be seeing are representative of. 29yrswithaGApass
The only sign that hasn't been replaced at this point is the Baboon Village! All the others look great!
29yrswithaGApass
The only sign that hasn't been replaced at this point is the Baboon Village! All the others look great! The set is now complete! They all look SO nice!
gafreak
They do look great and its nice to see that the park hasnt forgot about the safari!
ThemeParkRider
Wow, as a kid I always thought that they were just painted that way. Now I know how good it really used to look! I'm not saying this as a complaint, but if GA were to have this done all around the park, it would be so much better.
