Whao, is the economy this bad! Six FLags is going into hair styling! It makes me wonder what step Disney's going to make next(They already own everthing except an airline). Does anybody remember a few months a go a question in the trivia section asking if GADV had a barber shop in the old beachcomber gift shop? MAybe if they decide to put these in parks! But then again, who would pay $50+ to get in a theme park to get an $40+ haricut? But how's that for a unique suvenier! :P

Is that over 54" rule on the website a joke or are they serious? If anyone over 54" can't go in without someone under 54", that basically limits it to kids 8 - 9 or under.

I suppose it's a trade off. There's not much at Six Flags parks that age can ride.

If they name a ride 'Blowout,' I'm so getting the cut. :P

Six Flags Hair Salon Will Use Rollers

Thursday February 19, 2009

Have you ever looked at riders' hair as they exit roller coasters? Whatever 'do they brought on board the ride is inevitably destroyed by the windblown, knockabout experience. Amusement parks are the last place fashionistas would want to strut their coifs. It's all the more amazing, then, that Six Flags--yes that Six Flags--is getting into the hair salon business. No, this is not April 1, and yes, the ride chain known for its bald-headed Mr. Six is really going to be cutting hair.

To be called Six Flags Rollercoaster Cuts, the first location of the children's hair salon chain is set to open next month at the Blue Black Square in West Hartford, CT (about an hour from Six Flags New England). According to the company, the "multi-sensory" haircutting experience will include coaster cars that double as salon chairs, a shampoo station outfitted with a video wall showing point-of-view coaster rides, and visits from the parks' stable of characters. Patrons will be able to purchase specially priced tickets to nearby Six Flags parks.

What's next on the park chain's diversification agenda? How about Six Flags Tax Prep? Motto: We'll help you take the IRS for a ride. Or Six Flags Coffee Cafes? Tagline: Good to the last drop. Hey, perhaps Mr. Six Dance Studios would be a hit.

Don't underestimate what parents will spend on their kids. Look at crap like Build-A-Bear and think of how many kids you see walking out of the mall with those boxes. Kids love crappy gimmicks, and will nag their parents endlessly until they get what they want. If a kid knows they can go to get their hair cut at Regis in the mall or at Six Flags Coaster Cuts, which do you think they'll badger their parents into going to? Add to that many parents want photos of kids first haircuts and things, and it's almost like you're combining a haircut with one of those portrait studios.

I never have been to a baber shop of any kind, I just cut my own hair so I probably just don't get it. But I sure do know how gimmicks work on kids and hopefully they have a good one but I just feel this is sort of a folly for Six Flags. Back in the 90s out in CA, Disney tried their own version of Chuck E Cheese but it didn't work out.

But, Disney has a much bigger goal to live up to. When anyone sees the name Disney on something they expect much more than can be delivered in a non-Disney environment. The Six Flags brand is what it is...kids know it as fun.

Yes that is probably what happened. As I said hopefully this barber stuff works out well for SF since they need the money.
