Turnpike backed up 14 miles through Middlesex County

By LEO D. ROMMEL • Staff Writer • August 7, 2009

MIDDLESEX COUNTY — People eager to get to Six Flags Great Adventure has caused an approximate 14-mile backup on the inner and outer southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike, officials said.

The reported backup is from Exit 9 in East Brunswick to about Exit 7A in Robbinsville, an official at the New Jersey Turnpike Authority said.

Exit 7A is a common exit people use to get to Jackson, where the popular theme park is located, the official said.

The highway tightens from six lanes to five lanes to three lanes in a 3-mile stretch just south of exit 8A, the official said.

No accidents have been reported, the official said.

I sometimes run into a little traffic driving the other way from 6 - 7A (and it usually looks like it goes past 7A so it isn't because of the park).

14 miles backed up to the exit on a weekday?! I can't imagine what the park is going to look like tomorrow and the rest of the summer Saturday's.
