DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – A massive Dubai amusement park project still under construction plans a $454-million addition to include a Six Flags.

Dubai Parks & Resorts said Monday that its board of directors agreed to issue shares worth 1.67 billion dirhams ($454 million) to raise money for the Six Flags Dubai park. It said shareholders will vote on the deal in April.

The new spending by Dubai Parks & Resorts, which already includes Bollywood and movie-themed parks, as well as a Legoland, will put the cost of the entire project in the sprawling desert southwest of the city at well over $3 billion.

It's not clear what, if any role, Six Flags Entertainment Corp. of Grand Prairie, Texas, will have in running the new park.

La Ronde is not even officially Trademarked (no DC or Looney Tunes), Mexico is and Six Flags bought it to save its skin. I have wonder what La Ronde would have been called if it did; either Six Flags La Ronde, Six Flags [Over] Canada, or Six Flags Québec.

Dubai: Dubai Parks and Resorts has started construction on the first Six Flags theme park in the Middle East, with the 2.6 billion dirham ($707 million) attraction set to open in late 2019. Image supplied by Dubai Parks and Resorts.

The new park will include 27 rides and attractions across six themed zones, including Thrillseeker Plaza, Magic Mountain, Fiesta Texas, Great Escape, Great Adventure and Great America, according to a press statement released on Sunday.

The plans include three world record breaking rides, six rollercoasters and a 350-metre River Rapids ride. The fourth theme park in the Dubai Parks and Resorts portfolio, Six Flags Dubai will be set over an area of 2 million square feet, with 1.5 million square feet remaining for future development.

The main part of the Dubai Parks and Resorts project, which will include Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai and Legoland Dubai, will open in October this year.

The Dubai firm, through its parent firm Meraas Holding, holds the exclusive rights to develop and operate Six Flags-branded theme parks across the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.

I like how the sections of the park will be mostly names of the domestic Six Flags parks! I wonder what the Great Adventure section will include.

Scratching my head on this one. It makes no sense to me to name the sections after other parks. Even if they include clones of rides from the respective parks, how many visitors will have any frame of reference for what "Magic Mountain" means? Or for the difference between "Great Escape" and "Great America"? I feel it just reeks of the usual intellectual laziness we see from Six Flags.

All of those names were good names used in the past (which is why they have endured). They are very generic and can pretty much encompass any theme they want. It's a great homage to the Six Flags parks history and a great way to create themes without having to go overboard spending on theme elements. Also, almost all those names are/were common phrases or book/movie titles long before they were the adopted as names of theme parks.

Interesting new development: http://www.timeoutdubai.com/aroundtown/news/73035-six-flags-dubai-to-have-worlds-biggest-roller-coaster

Six Flags Dubai to have world's biggest roller coaster

Time Out has news Six Flags Dubai to have world's biggest roller coaster, when the theme park in Dubai opens in 2019 at Dubai Parks & Resort

Just as Dubai is gearing up to open its first two theme parks in the space of one year, it’s been announced that by 2019 the city will have the largest roller coaster on the planet at Six Flags, another of the upcoming amusement parks set to transform the entertainment offer in the UAE.

And it’s not just hearsay we’re using as a source. None other than the prestigious Wall Street Journal has just reported that Six Flags “has pledged to build the world’s biggest roller-coaster ride in Dubai”.

Currently, the biggest roller coaster in the world is Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in the US. It measures a staggering 139 metres in height.

Anyone have WSJ access to read the story?

Ride Entertainment: E-Motionboard flying theatre to debut at Six Flags Dubai

17th November 2017

A world leader in providing thrilling attractions to the entertainment industry, Ride Entertainment has confirmed that the E-Motionboard flying theatre will make its debut at Six Flags Dubai.

The company has a long history working with Six Flags to seek out the most innovative rides for its parks. The E-Motionboard is seen as ‘the next step in this partnership’.

Manufactured by Austria’s Valtiner & Partner, the attraction reimagines the flying theatre, combining next-generation immersive technology with the relatively simple mechanics of an amusement ride.

Riders experience the E-Motionboard theatre standing up

Another key difference is that the riders experience the attraction standing up. According to Ride Entertainment, this puts them right in the heart of the action. The Motion Grid ensures the riders are comfortably supported in a standing position for the duration of the film.

Onscreen action is enhanced with a whole range of effects including wind, translucent floor and wall panels, platform drop effect, scent, fog, strobe lights and lasers. The experience is taken to the next level with a Virtual Reality (VR) audio/visual system.

The 6DOF system is designed to be owner friendly and electric drives ensure consistent uptime.

The theatre can accommodate 39 visitors at a time. The 1 metre height requirement and wheelchair access makes it available to as many guests as possible.

For added flexibility, the E-Motionboard can be used with almost any content library.

Six Flags Dubai will be Dubai Parks and Resorts’ fourth theme park and the region’s first Six Flags park. Owned by DXB Entertainments PJSC, the multi-themed destination includes the Hollywood-inspired MOTIONGATE™Dubai, LEGOLAND® Dubai and Bollywood Parks™ Dubai. Six Flags Dubai is slated to open in 2019.

DXB Entertainments says Six flags Dubai put on hold over finance

DUBAI, Feb 6 (Reuters) - DXB Entertainments PJSC said on Wednesday that the Six Flags theme park project in Dubai cannot proceed as a syndicated finance facility is no longer available.

DXB Entertainment said the decision came after its board mandated a strategic review of its future development plans and capital deployment.

“In the intervening period, actions, including formal notification by Six Flags, resulted in funders’ concerns being raised specifically in relation to the revised projections for the Six Flags Dubai Project,” the firm said in a statement. (Reporting by Asma Alsharif Editing by Alexander Smith)

It will be interesting to see if there is any truth to what Screamscape recently posted.  2020 could be an interesting year for Six Flags additions if DXB Entertainments is unable or unwilling to pay for the rides already delivered to Dubai.  This could be why Six Flags sent out surveys about the Mack PowerSplash and B&M Dive Machine in November.

Resort News - (2/4/19) It has been suggested to me that any rides ordered and already delivered for the possibly cancelled Six Flags Dubai theme park project can likely be paid for by Dubai Parks & Resorts and installed as new attractions at their Bollywood and Motiongate theme parks instead of at the Six Flags site. Just something else to think about while the fate of Six Flags Dubai is still officially said to be in the air.

(1/31/19) Screamscape sources have quietly sent in a little more information regarding the fate of Six Flags Dubai.

According to what I’m told the funding for the park was was pulled back in October, which would match up with the reports that leaked to the local news sources a few weeks later that the entire Six Flags Dubai project was undergoing “a board-mandated review”.

According to the latest gossip, this sudden stop the project underwent after construction has already been well under way on the site, followed by this latest development, has not been well received by the many ride companies and vendors involved with the project. I’m not going to list company names, but a good number of well known ride companies were involved and were building, or had already built, ride hardware for this park and were awaiting assembly as well as payment.

From the sound of things, many were on board as they have previously been partners with Six Flags before at their US based theme parks… but Dubai Parks & Resorts was the true owner of Six Flags Dubai and in the end, was the one footing the bill for the project, which now looks to be leaving some big names in a very awkward position. Word is some of them have asked Six Flags to bring the projects to their US parks, but the cost to launch a whole new theme park ride collection into the chain all at once would be cost prohibitive. Maybe a ride or two perhaps could find their way to the US, but then again Six Flags is also involved with building parks in China right now as well as an alternative.

    More as we find out…

Six Flags gets $7.5 million payout after Dubai partner ends project

DUBAI (Reuters) - Six Flags will receive $7.5 million from the U.S. company’s Dubai partner DXB Entertainments, which has ended plans to build a Six Flags theme park.

DXB owns Dubai Parks and Resorts, a group of theme parks in the south of Dubai including the Hollywood-inspired Motiongate and a Lego-themed water park.

It said in February plans for Six Flags Dubai would not go ahead because financing was no longer available.

DXB Entertainments said in a statement on Tuesday it will pay $7.5 million to Six Flags as part of a settlement agreement with both sides agreeing there would be no further claims.

The Dubai theme park company said it will retain exclusive right of first refusal for use of ‘Six Flags’ intellectual property rights in the United Arab Emirates for five years.

Numerous theme parks and other entertainment venues have opened in the UAE in recent years, although some have struggled due to low visitor numbers and high costs.

DXB Entertainments first quarter loss widened to 215.7 million dirhams ($58.73 million), it reported in May.

In neighboring Saudi Arabia, Six Flags is involved in a park in a project being built on a 334 square km (8,400 acre) site, making it 2-1/2 times the size of Disney World.

I heard this coaster will be built as part of the expansion at Motiongate Dubai. No pictures yet, but people visiting the park have reported seeing white Intamin track behind Capitol Bullet Train.

I personally think Falcons flight isn't gonna be built. Here's why, The dubai park looks really cool but Six Flags doesn't really have a lot of money they have over 20 parks to take care of and make sure nothing bad happens. They are struggling a lot even before the pandemic, Jim reid anderson bought a lot more parks which helped and hurt the company. Many of their stuff cost a lot to build along with lower attendance in some parks. If you look at the dubai park its expensive at 707 million dollars to build, that's a lot. And Six Flags isn't ready to go international they have way to many problems. and with Falcons Flight i dont think its gonna happen nothing more bigger has been at that height, the cost of building it will be a ton and it going through that tunnel isn't probably gonna happen its pretty obvious its Six Flags, For me this is a bad idea focus on your parks and sell the ones with low attendance and trash rides. If your going to make that kind of park at 707 million dollars when your struggling a lot with the pandemic and even before it cancel the park you aren't ready for this.
