Drive Thru Safari to Return!

Recommended Posts

The Safari was fantastic!  It brought back so many memories to the 1974-2012 Safari.

Absolutely going back soon.  For the situation the park and staff are in, they handled it perfectly.

I had a great time today at the Safari! It was nice to see the animals and get some unique shots of the coasters. I’m also glad to see that GASM is still getting some love in a way 😅

We went today, and it was great to drive through again!! Our reservations were at 3, and we had a BLAST. My *only* complaint was the staff was trying to break everyone into two lanes of traffic at each of the checkpoints...and then everyone went back to 1 lane and then you had those who would weave from one side to another holding up traffic. One car was REALLY bad-almost hit me and the car in front of me, and the staff actually pulled them aside twice, and then finally escorted them the rest of the way out. I had to laugh and could only think that the folks never drove through the old safari lol.

My kids had an up close biology lesson with the giraffes, and my oldest some got a few really good photos through the dirty windows.

What time did you get in with the 3 pm reservation and how long were you there?  We have the same tomorrow and everything I have read is saying it was hours to get in.

This seems interesting and amazing! The Drive Thru Safari hasn't been around since they made it into Off-Road Adventure. This might be our last chance to experience the Drive Thru Safari once everything goes back to normal for SFGA. I'm not much of a person interested in stuff like this though the whole experience and how uncommon this is is interesting... also its something fun to do with your family. If you have a chance to go, go for it! I might try and go sometime this week

It is great to see that after all these years the Safari is still as popular as ever, whether it's the long lines in the park for the Safari Off Road Adventure or the huge lineup of cars waiting to drive thru.  Hopefully this will keep the Safari "safe" for many years to come.

Have there been rumors it's on the chopping block?

My family and I went last Thursday and had a blast. It was great to drive through like I did when I was a kid. I have a couple of questions. What roller coaster is the track in the baboons from? Also, any idea when they will allow you to cancel a reservation instead of just modifying it?

Great American Scream Machine. The top half is from one of the loops before they were beefed up in it's early years.

Odd. For me it only asked about my season pass/number in party/ and the time slot. Then it sent me a confirmation for the arrival time but no charge. It even said $0 on the website which I thought was odd and I tried going back a few steps to find where the guest would be charged. Guess I'll try again today.

You need to purchase tickets here.  https://sf-nj.store.sixflags.com/packageDetails/10074652/keyword/safaridrive?sfCustomerID=&_cid=1987241221.1587677975

Then when you go to the park for your reservation they’ll scan it just like they will scan your pass and anyone else’s in your group.  Hope that helps.

Half of Six Flags Q2 attendance came from the Safari.

https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200729005096/en/Flags-Announces-Quarter-Earnings

Quote

Revenue for the second quarter of 2020 was $19 million, with attendance of 433,000 guests, both a decrease of 96 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

------

Total guest spending per capita for the second quarter of 2020 was $35.77, a decrease of $6.50, or 15 percent, compared to the second quarter of 2019. The decrease was primarily due to park mix: half of the company’s attendance in the second quarter came from the company’s drive-through Safari at Six Flags Great Adventure, which reopened in May 2020 after having been converted to a free park attraction in 2013. The safari experiences lower guest spending per capita compared to the company’s other parks due to the lack of in-park spending opportunities.

------

In-park spending per capita in the second quarter of 2020 decreased $7.79, or 43 percent compared to the second quarter of 2019, to $10.45, primarily due to the lack of in-park spending opportunity at the company’s drive-through Safari at Six Flags Great Adventure. The decrease was also attributable to the deferral of approximately $6 million of monthly membership revenue related to all-season membership products such as the all-season dining pass. Similar to the membership admission payments described above, this revenue will be deferred until the additional months received for these products are utilized.
